Boston College Showed Off Something Fans Needed To See Early

Boston College Baseball showcases its depth and talent with a double win over Hofstra University in a thrilling fall ball home game.

The Boston College baseball team wrapped up its lone home fall ball game of the season in Brighton, and the Eagles made sure it ended with two wins. Boston College beat Hofstra twice on Saturday afternoon, taking both seven-inning games by a 5-3 score.

The opener started with the Eagles setting the tone in the second inning. Luke Gallo singled, Colin Larson walked, and then Gallo swiped third.

Easton Masse followed with an RBI single to bring Gallo home, and Brodey Bitove added the next run to make it 2-0. Hofstra answered with a run in the top of the third, but Boston College kept pressing.

Ty Mainolfi tripled in the next inning, and Gallo came through again with a sacrifice fly to score him. Then in the fifth, Mainolfi and Gallo linked up once more. Mainolfi doubled, stole a base, and Gallo drove him in with a double to stretch the lead.

Hofstra got one more run in the first game, but the Eagles closed it out in the bottom of the seventh. Sean Martinez singled, and Mainolfi brought him in for the fifth and final Boston College run.

Game two followed a similar script, with the Eagles jumping in front early. Mainolfi doubled in the third inning and Gallo singled him home. Danny Surowiec then broke things open with a two-run home run for a 3-0 lead.

Boston College kept adding on from there. Martinez doubled to start the fourth, stole third, and later scored on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, Larson was hit by a pitch, stole a base, and then came home on Nick Quagliato’s RBI single. Hofstra pushed across three runs in the sixth, but the Eagles held on again for the 5-3 win.

Mainolfi turned in the loudest all-around day at the plate. In game one, he went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and an RBI, reaching base in three of his four trips.

Gallo also delivered in the first game, finishing 2-for-4 with a single, double and RBI. Masse added an RBI single and drew two walks in three productive plate appearances.

Surowiec supplied the biggest swing of game two with his two-run shot, finishing 2-for-4 with a home run, a single and two RBIs. Martinez went 2-for-3 across the day, adding a double, a stolen base and the run that sealed game one.

On the mound, Brady Miller started the opener and struck out three over three innings. Brayden Ryan and Champ Davis followed with back-to-back scoreless innings, and Gavin Soares finished the game over the final two frames. In the second game, Matt Kouser opened with two shutout innings, and the bullpen handled the rest with three more scoreless innings before Kyle Kipp locked down the victory.

Davis was especially sharp in relief in game one, working one inning, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out two.

Boston College Is Suddenly At The Center Of A Huge Recruiting Test

Boston College suddenly finds itself in the middle of a major recruiting moment with Josiah Nance, one of the top names in the 2027 basketball class, set to make his college decision after taking official visits to four finalists. The Eagles are in the mix with SMU, USC and Wake Forest for a prospect whose appeal starts with his size and athleticism and extends to the kind of defensive versatility that has made him one of the more closely watched players in the country.

There is still plenty for Boston College to prove in the eyes of a high-level recruit like Nance, who scouts believe has real long-term upside but is still working through some of the finer points of his game, including shooting and decision making. His choice will come in a live television setting, which adds another layer of attention to a recruitment the Eagles would love to turn into a statement win. [Read more 🡒]

Boston College Gets A Crucial Week 7 Test Against A Shaken Pitt Team

Boston College comes out of its first bye week of the 2026 season facing a Week 7 trip to Pittsburgh, and the timing gives the Eagles a chance to reset before a road game that now looks even more important. The matchup carries extra weight because Boston College has been trying to find more consistency on offense, where it sits 104th in FBS, while its defense has been the steadier side of the ball at 37th nationally.

Pitt, meanwhile, is dealing with a major change under center, and the Panthers' next few weeks will be shaped by how quickly they can settle things at quarterback. Boston College will be watching closely after seeing what happened in Pittsburgh's loss to North Carolina, because the Eagles have a defense that can make life difficult if the Panthers are still sorting through answers.
