Boston, Mass. - The Boston College rowing team kicked off their spring season in style, securing two first-place finishes at the Gummy Bear Bowl on a brisk Saturday morning.

Head Coach Grace Hollowell expressed her satisfaction with the team's performance, highlighting their depth and solid base pace. "With two wins, it's a great starting point for the spring," she noted. "We're eager to get back to work, focusing on our start and sprint as more races loom on the horizon."

The weather was classic New England, with temperatures ranging from 37°F to 50°F and a northwest wind blowing at 10-21 mph.

The Eagles' Second Varsity 8+ crew stole the show, notching the fastest time of the day. Coxed by Lucy Fortner, the lineup included Erin Smith, Kate Weitz, Lauren Schramm, Sylvia Freidenrich, Quinn Baker, Jennie Sherwood, Angela Devine, and Olivia Hankey. They clocked in at 7:01.0, edging out BU's Second Varsity 8+ Lightweights by three seconds.

Adding to the triumph, the Eagles' First Varsity 4+ team claimed victory over BU’s First Varsity 4+. With Cassidy Ferron at the helm and rowers Ella Davis, Alice Frascella, Beatrice Maxwell, and Eva Croney-Ferraiuoli powering the boat, they finished in 7:57.4.

In a nail-biter, BC's First Varsity 8+ secured a close second place. Coxed by Caroline Jennings, the crew of Lauren Craven, Lucy Barratt, Lauren Bauer, Molly Devine, Reagan Rock, Callaghan Nickerson, Sofia Martin, and Ella Ryan finished just two seconds behind BU's First Varsity 8+, recording a time of 7:09.7.

The Third Varsity 8+, led by coxswain Madelyn Stevens and featuring Vanessa Ksiazek, Jo McTamney, Chloe Wilkinson, Kirsten Thorn, Madeleine Newall, Hannah Cochener, Melinda Aznar Klein, and Leighton Davis, crossed the line in 7:13.1, taking third place behind BC's Second Varsity 8+ and BU's Lightweights.

The Second Varsity 4+, with Tariya Singh as coxswain, and rowers Molly Smith, Amelia Sanger, Emma Lawson, and Amirah Easter, finished third with a time of 8:16.5. Meanwhile, the Third Varsity 4+, coxed by Helen Russell and rowed by Molly O'Connell, Josie Hohenrieder, Molly Welch, and Sofia Tamayo, completed their race in 8:51.7.
