Boston College Must Prove Its Late Surge Is Real At Wake Forest

Boston College faces a tough challenge as they head south to take on Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament's opening round, seeking to upset the third-seeded Demon Deacons.

Boston College is heading south for a familiar ACC test, opening tournament play Wednesday night against Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. The Eagles enter as the No. 14 seed and will face the third-seeded Demon Deacons at 6:00 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

BC arrives with a bit of momentum after finishing the regular season with a 5-1 win over AIC. Dylan Mafong delivered the first hat trick of his career in that match, while Alexi Karalis and Charlie Pons each scored their first career goals. Christian Bejar, Jayson Quintanilla, Henry Wassarman, and Andres Siso all picked up assists, and Leo Seidel made his first career start in goal, finishing with three saves.

The Eagles closed the regular season at 6-6-3 overall and 1-6-1 in ACC play. Mafong has been the team’s top scorer, finishing with seven goals and 18 points to go with four assists, which he shares with Bryan Toro for the team lead. In net, Andrej Borak started 14 games and posted a 1.79 goals-against average, a .662 save percentage, and two shutouts.

Wake Forest comes in at 11-4-2 overall and 5-3 in the ACC after falling 2-1 to third-ranked Clemson in its regular-season finale. Tate Lorentz leads the Demon Deacons with five goals and 14 points, while Jeffrey White tops the team with five assists. Wake Forest has used two goalkeepers this season: Jonah Mednard started the first eight games and went 5-2-1 with a 1.05 goals-against average, a .784 save percentage, and two shutouts, while Owen Barnett started the last nine and is 6-2-1 with a 0.81 goals-against average, a .800 save percentage, and three shutouts.

This will be the 23rd meeting between the programs. Wake Forest leads the series 13-7-1 and is 8-1-1 all-time at home against BC.

The teams already met once this season, with Wake Forest taking a 2-1 win on Oct. 9.

Toro scored Boston College’s lone goal in the 88th minute off an assist from Jack Burkhardt, and Borak made two saves in the defeat.

The ACC tournament history between the schools is split, with each side winning once in their two previous postseason meetings. Boston College’s tournament victory came in the 2007 ACC title game, a 2-1 win that delivered the program’s only ACC championship.

If the Eagles get past Wake Forest, they would move on to face the winner of No. 6 Virginia Tech and No.

11 NC State on Sunday. The kickoff time for that match will be announced after the first-round games.

Boston Colleges Opener Raised An Early Concern Fans Cant Ignore

Boston Colleges womens basketball season opened with a result the Eagles would rather not have on the record, as Holy Cross walked out with a 64-54 win and the early tone of the night was set by BCs uneven offense. The Eagles had trouble finding a rhythm from the floor and never really settled in, while Holy Cross looked more connected from the start and carried that edge through the game.

Coach Kate Popovec-Goss pointed to the Crusaders chemistry and to Boston Colleges execution issues after halftime, which is where the concern starts to feel bigger than one bad opener. The second half exposed the kind of slippage that can haunt a team if it lingers, and for an Eagles group trying to establish itself early, the next step is figuring out whether this was just a rough first night or the first sign of a deeper problem. Boston College Brings A Dangerous Midseason Formula Into Florida State

Boston College heads into Saturdays matchup with Florida State at Alumni Stadium riding a formula that has kept it competitive through the first half of the season. The Eagles have leaned on a defense that has made life difficult for opponents, and the numbers through eight games show a unit that has been especially disruptive while the offense has done enough to keep the team in position most weeks. The game will air on ACC Network, with radio coverage on WEEI 93.7 FM.

A key part of that balance has been getting healthier at the right time, and one of the more encouraging developments came at Duke when Kaelan Chudzinski was back in the starting lineup after missing the first seven games with an injury. His return adds another layer to a roster that has been piecing together answers as the schedule toughens, and now the question is whether Boston College can carry that midseason rhythm into a home date with a Florida State team that will force the Eagles to keep playing clean, efficient football. Boston College Volleyball Has A Real Chance To Keep Climbing In ACC Play

Boston College volleyball heads into a double-header against Syracuse with a little more confidence than it had a week ago. The Eagles have strung together wins over Virginia Tech and Virginia, and those results have helped reinforce the idea that this group is settling in as one of the ACCs more dangerous teams, with Audrey Ross and Brooklyn Yelland playing central roles in the recent surge.

Syracuse still presents a tricky test, especially with Boston College carrying a long-term series deficit, but the recent head-to-head history has tilted the other way. Add in the fact that the Eagles and several of their players are showing up near the top of the conference in key categories, and this feels like the kind of stretch that could tell us a lot about how far Boston College can keep climbing in ACC play.
