Boston College has made a strategic move by appointing Kate Popovec-Goss as the head coach for its women’s basketball program. Popovec-Goss, who has spent the past four years at the helm of Bradley, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success.
“Kate Popovec-Goss is a proven winner and transformational leader; we are excited to welcome her to Boston College,” said BC Athletic Director Blake James. Her successful stint at Bradley, where she orchestrated a remarkable turnaround, aligns perfectly with Boston College’s vision. Popovec-Goss is expected to infuse the program with the energy and expertise needed to propel it forward.
With 13 seasons of collegiate coaching under her belt, Popovec-Goss has built an impressive resume. Her coaching journey began in 2013 as the director of basketball operations at La Salle. She further honed her skills with stints at Colgate and Northwestern, where she developed a reputation for her strategic acumen and leadership.
At Bradley, Popovec-Goss transformed a struggling program, leading the Braves from a mere four wins in the 2022-23 season to a 20-win season and a WNIT bid. This turnaround is a testament to her ability to inspire and elevate her teams.
Her playing days at Northwestern and Pittsburgh laid a strong foundation for her coaching career, providing her with firsthand experience of the game’s demands and nuances.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the new role, Popovec-Goss said, “I am incredibly honored to be named the head coach at Boston College, one of the most prestigious institutions in the country, in one of the best cities in the nation. This is a special opportunity, and I’m excited to build a program that reflects the excellence, integrity, and tradition that define BC.
It is evident that BC believes in building a championship experience both on the court and off of it, which aligns with my mission as coach. My family and I are so grateful for the belief of Fr.
Leahy, Blake James, and Shauna Cobb. I can’t wait to get to work!
Go Eagles!”
With Popovec-Goss at the helm, Boston College fans have every reason to be optimistic about the future of their women’s basketball program. Her leadership promises to bring a new era of success and excitement to the Eagles.
