Boston College Just Sent A Clear Message With Two 2027 Specialists

Boston College lands talented special teams duo from Florida as they bolster their upcoming roster with strategic commitments.

Boston College kept building out its Class of ’27 on Friday, landing a pair of special teams commitments from North Broward, Fla. Long snapper Aidan Field and kicker/punter Mateo Sanchez both announced for the Eagles on social media after visiting campus in late June for Boston College’s Specialists Camp.

Sanchez, who can line up as either a kicker or punter, picked up his Boston College offer last weekend from special teams coach Matt Thurin. He also had offers from Duke, Army and Florida State.

“I chose Boston College because it felt like the right place for me,” Sanchez told Eagle Insider. “The coaching staff has been incredible, and every conversation I had with them made me more excited about the opportunity.

I wanted a school where I could play great football, get a great education, and be part of a program with a strong culture. I'm really excited to be an Eagle and can't wait to get started.”

Field’s offer from Thurin came earlier this week, and he said the fit at Boston College was clear.

“Boston College was the perfect fit for me because of the trajectory of the program, the relationships I built with Coach O'Brien, Coach Thurin, and Coach McGriff, and the incredible culture they are building. The elite education, outstanding campus and facilities, and the tradition of BC football made it an easy decision. I'm excited to be an Eagle.”

Sanchez also drew attention from the Kohl’s Kicking camp. Their evaluation said he “recently competed at the 2025 Kohl's National Scholarship Camp.

He once again flashed an explosive leg and scored 104.67 points in the kickoff portion of camp. He scored 15 points in the field goal charting and produced an excellent "A" ball at camp.

Sanchez had an excellent showing at the 2024 Kohl's Southern Spring Showcase. He showed improvement with his leg strength and improved command of his "A" ball on field goals.

He scored 7 points in the field goal charting and was able to produce a score of 105.05 in the kickoff charting. His biggest charted kickoff at camp was 72 yards with 3.41 seconds of hang time.”

Bill O'Brien Just Said What BC Fans Fear About College Football

Bill O'Brien did not sound like a coach trying to sell optimism when he talked to SiriusXM about the state of college football. He framed the transfer portal, NIL and the growing role of agents as forces that have changed roster building into something far messier than it used to be, and he made clear that Boston College has had to adapt by putting more financial commitment into the program and leaning on revenue sharing to help construct the roster.

For BC, the challenge is not abstract. The Eagles have already gone heavy into the portal, bringing in a large wave of transfers while also watching a sizable group of players leave, which is the new reality for programs trying to stay competitive. O'Brien's bigger point was about regulation and sustainability, but the immediate question for Boston College is whether this version of roster construction can actually hold together long enough to give the Eagles the kind of stability every staff is chasing.
