Boston College walked out of Columbus with a statement win on Sunday afternoon, knocking off No. 20 Ohio State 3-2 in a shootout at Buckeye Varsity Field.
The Eagles, now 3-5 overall and 0-1 in ACC play, outlasted the Buckeyes after the teams finished regulation tied at 2-2. BC then held its nerve in the shootout, with goals from Ike Jakobsen, Laila Rosenquest and Melea Weber sealing the upset. Charlotte Kramer did her part in goal, turning away three Ohio State shots in the shootout to close the door.
Ohio State struck first in the opening quarter, but Boston College answered quickly. Just over a minute later, Caroline Chisholm finished off an assist from Maren Boyle to make it 1-1.
Neither side could break through in the second quarter, but BC found its next opening in the third. Carmen Chiu converted off a corner from Madelieve Drion to put the Eagles in front 2-1.
That lead didn’t last. Ohio State pulled level in the fourth quarter, forcing the game into a shootout after 60 minutes at 2-2.
From there, Kramer and the Eagles took over. BC made good on three shootout chances, with Jakobsen and Rosenquest converting after both teams missed their first two attempts. Weber then scored on Boston College’s fifth try, and Ohio State managed only two conversions of its own.
Kramer finished with four saves in the match, including two in the third quarter and two more in the fourth. Boston College ended with eight shots and three on goal, while Ohio State posted 12 shots and six on target.
