In a tough showdown at Harrington Athletic Village, the Boston College Eagles softball team faced a formidable challenge against the No. 12 Virginia Tech Hokies. The Eagles, with a record of 10-23 overall and 2-7 in the ACC, were looking to make a statement, but the Hokies had other plans.
Virginia Tech came out swinging, launching a two-run homer right off the bat in the first inning. The Hokies didn't stop there, unleashing a 12-run barrage in the second inning that put them in a commanding 14-0 lead. It was a display of offensive firepower that left the Eagles reeling.
However, Boston College showed resilience. Emma Knight sparked a rally in the third inning, bringing in two runs with help from teammates Katelyn Deguire and Sammy Horn. Abby Ptak followed up with a crucial single, driving Knight home and narrowing the gap to 15-3.
Despite the Eagles' efforts, the Hokies added two more runs in the fourth inning. Shannon MacLeod delivered a solid performance on the mound, recording her fifth strikeout and keeping Virginia Tech scoreless in the fifth. Yet, Boston College couldn't close the gap further, ending the game with a final score of 17-3.
Looking ahead, Boston College is set to travel to Providence, RI, to take on The Friars this Tuesday at 4 p.m. before heading south to face Georgia Tech. The Eagles will be eager to regroup and build on the positives from this challenging series.
