Boston College Women’s Track & Field Heads Back to BU with Momentum and Records in Tow
Boston College Women’s Track & Field is hitting its stride as the indoor season picks up steam. After a strong showing at the Scarlet & White Invitational, the Eagles are set to return to the BU Track & Tennis Center for the second consecutive weekend, this time for the John Thomas Terrier Classic on Friday, January 30.
And if last week was any indication, this group is just getting warmed up.
Sydney Segalla: Setting the Pace, Again
Let’s start with the headline: Sydney Segalla continues to be a force on the track. The standout sprinter broke her third school record of the indoor season, clocking a blistering 23.55 in the 200m to take the win.
That kind of speed doesn’t just rewrite the record books-it sends a message. Segalla isn’t just fast; she’s in a rhythm, and right now, few can match her.
But Segalla’s dominance didn’t stop at the 200m. She also turned in a 7.70 in the 60m, landing her among the program’s all-time top performers in that event as well. Her versatility across sprint distances is giving BC a serious edge this season.
Top-Ten Momentum Across the Board
Segalla wasn’t the only Eagle making noise. Five athletes in total posted top-ten program marks at the Scarlet & White meet, a clear sign that the team’s depth is rounding into form.
Hanna Hollins delivered a strong 2:45.76 in the 1000m, while Kyla Palmer clocked a 55.54 in the 400m-both times good enough to etch their names into the BC record books. These performances weren’t just fast-they were composed, competitive, and indicative of a team peaking at the right time.
Looking Back-and Ahead
The John Thomas Terrier Classic has been kind to BC in the past. Last year’s edition saw five top-ten program marks, including a 7.76 in the 60m from Anna Sonsini, the second-fastest time in school history. Sonsini is back in the lineup this weekend, and with the way the team is trending, there’s every reason to believe more records could fall.
The meet kicks off Saturday, January 31 at 10:00 a.m. at BU’s Track & Tennis Center. It’s a familiar venue, but this team is bringing a new level of confidence and cohesion.
Who to Watch This Weekend
In addition to Segalla, Palmer, and Sonsini, the Eagles are bringing a full squad to BU. That includes Anna Becker, Iris Bergman, Kylee Bernard, Ava Carter, Gina Certo, Claire Crowley, Imogen Gardiner, Kyra Holland, Natalie Millerova, Ron-niah Wright, and Yaroslava Yalysovetska. It’s a deep roster, and with each meet, more names are stepping up and making an impact.
Next Up
After this weekend’s action, Boston College will shift its focus to the River Hawk Invitational at the TRACK at New Balance on February 6 and 7. But for now, all eyes are on BU, where the Eagles are looking to keep the momentum rolling and stack more standout performances in what’s shaping up to be a memorable indoor campaign.
Stay tuned-this team is moving fast, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon.
