Boston College has a busy Tuesday on tap even with football idle during the open week, and the day starts with a little bit of everything: a baseball win, a basketball debut, a fresh uniform reveal and a look back at one of the program’s sharper road results.
The biggest on-field result came from Storrs, where Boston College baseball outlasted UConn 8-7 in its second fall game. Julio Solier paced the offense with a 3-for-5 afternoon that included a double, a home run and two RBI.
His seventh-inning blast went 390 feet and left the bat at 108 mph, the hardest-hit ball of the game. Ty Mainolfi was on base all night, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple, two walks and an RBI.
He delivered a go-ahead single in the fifth with a 104 mph exit velocity, then added a seventh-inning triple at 103 mph.
The pitching side had its own bright spots. JJ Drennan worked two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out three while averaging 96 mph on his fastball and touching 98.3. Champ Davis appeared for BC for the first time and got the win, and Brayden Ryan closed it out by taking the final five outs and striking out three for the save.
BC is now through two of its four fall games. The Eagles return home Saturday at 1 p.m. against Hofstra at Eddie Pellagrini Diamond, then finish the fall slate against Rutgers on October 18.
Basketball also gets its moment in the spotlight today, with Luke Murray making his first ACC Tipoff appearance as Boston College’s head coach in Charlotte. He’ll be joined by guards Jacob Furphy and Money Williams at 2 p.m.
Williams arrives with plenty of momentum. He led the Big Sky in scoring last season at Montana with 20.6 points per game, earned unanimous first-team All-Big Sky honors and was named Big Sky Tournament MVP after pouring in a tournament-record 91 points across three games.
Furphy, meanwhile, comes over from UConn, where he played for Murray. His college minutes were limited last season, but he averaged 16.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Australia at the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup.
Boston College also gave fans a first look at its new basketball uniforms after teasing the reveal on social media. The video featured former Eagles Dana Barros and Danya Abrams, and the throwback design nods to the 1990s with a clean, simple look.
There’s no BC game on campus today, so Charlotte is the center of the action. The men’s group with Murray, Furphy and Williams is scheduled for noon, while Kate Popovec-Goss, Grace Oliver and Jocelyne Grier will represent the women’s program during that portion of the event, which is set to begin at 10:45.
ACC Network’s coverage runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET, and commissioner Jim Phillips’ forum is set for 12:30 p.m.
The day also comes with a glance back at October 6, 2012, when Boston College men’s soccer went into Winston-Salem and beat No. 15 Wake Forest 1-0 at Spry Stadium.
Charlie Rugg scored the lone goal in the 57th minute, with Kyle Bekker and Dylan Pritchard assisting. It was Rugg’s fifth goal of the season and extended his run to five straight matches with at least one point.
Justin Luthy made eight saves, all in the second half, to help preserve the lead.
And on the podcast side, AJ Black and Mike Sidhly’s latest Locked on Boston College episode digs into Mason McKenzie’s performance, the offensive line, BC’s defense and the questions facing the Eagles during the open week. The episode listing says McKenzie completed 20 of 31 passes for 208 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 74 yards.
