Brown Stays Unbeaten, Hands Boston College a 6-1 Loss in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Boston College ran into a buzzsaw Friday night, as Brown stayed perfect on the season with a 6-1 win at the Pizzitola Center. The Eagles, now 2-1 on the year, battled throughout, but the Bears' depth and consistency across the lineup proved too much.

The evening started with a tightly contested doubles round, and BC showed some early fight. Liam O’Leary and Matvey Greschner delivered a gritty performance at the top spot, edging out Brown’s Alexander Bravo and Ivan Sodan in a 7-6 tiebreak. But the Bears took care of business on Courts 2 and 3, securing the doubles point with a pair of straight-set wins to grab early momentum.

From there, Brown’s singles lineup took over. The Bears rolled to five wins in six matches, showcasing a well-rounded attack that’s now helped them open the season at 5-0.

Boston College’s bright spot came at No. 3 singles, where senior Mai Gao dug deep and delivered a hard-earned win over Alexander Bravo. Gao took the first set 7-5, then outlasted Bravo in a second-set tiebreak before closing it out in a deciding super tiebreak, 1-0 (5). It was a gritty, composed performance from Gao, who continues to be a steady presence in the middle of the lineup.

Elsewhere, Brown’s top players were locked in. Ivan Sodan was clinical at No. 1, dispatching Matthew Carioscia in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Lukas Phimvongsa followed suit at No. 2, holding off Matthew Overvelde in a competitive 7-5, 6-4 result. The Bears also picked up wins from Elliot Wasserman at No.

4, Robert Yang at No. 5, and Alexander Koong at No. 6 - all in straight sets.
