Boston College Let Another Hockey East Game Slip Away

Boston College had enough offense to make this one interesting at Kelley Rink, but not enough to finish it off. The Eagles matched Northeastern through stretches of the night and got goals from Alex Pelletier, Dean Letourneau and Jake Sondreal, with Pelletier driving the attack and setting the tone in a game that kept swinging back and forth.

Still, the final result left BC with another missed chance in Hockey East play, as Northeastern found the winner in overtime and sent the Eagles to a 2-4-1 start. For a team trying to steady itself early in the season, the frustration is less about the effort than the way these games keep slipping out of reach when the margin gets tight. [Read more 🡒]

Boston College's Florida State Worry Goes Beyond One Ugly Loss

Boston Colleges trip to Duke turned into the kind of afternoon that lingers long after the final whistle, and not just because of the score. The Eagles were buried 47-2, a game defined by 15 penalties for 132 yards, repeated breakdowns in protection and a defense that had no answer for Dukes ground game. Jeff Hafley did not try to soften it afterward, acknowledging how badly the team was prepared and how far off its discipline was from where it needed to be.

The concern for Boston College is bigger than one lopsided loss because the issues showed up everywhere at once. Duke piled up six sacks and 11 tackles for loss, while the Eagles lone points came on a defensive touchdown after a blocked extra point. For a team trying to steady itself, that kind of collapse raises questions that go well beyond one bad Saturday and into what comes next for a program that cannot afford many more afternoons like this. Boston College Just Had The Kind Of Loss Fans Wont Forget

A rough afternoon in Durham turned into the kind of game Boston College will want to move past quickly, with the offense never finding a rhythm and the penalty count piling up. Mason McKenzie finished 9 of 17 for 87 yards and was sacked four times, while the Eagles were flagged 15 times for 132 yards in a lopsided loss that left very little to hang onto.

Even the rare bright spots came in odd fashion, with the Eagles scraping together just two points while Duke controlled the game behind Nathan Sheppards five touchdowns and Walker Egets 200 passing yards. Boston Colleges next conversations will be less about the final score than how a day like this happened at all, and how quickly the offense can steady itself after a performance this uneven.
