The Philadelphia 76ers filled one of their biggest offseason needs on Monday, landing Anfernee Simons after outbidding the Golden State Warriors for the 6-foot-3 sharpshooter.
Philadelphia’s roster picture changed quickly after its blockbuster trade for Jaylen Brown. Two priorities stood out right away: a starting power forward and a second-unit wing scorer who could change a game with his shot-making. The Sixers are still searching for that high-caliber PF, but they did check one major box by bringing in Simons, a dynamic scorer who should give the bench a real jolt.
The team made the move official on Monday.
“ Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Mike Gansey announced today that the team has signed Anfernee Simons,” the franchise stated.
Simons arrives with a track record that fits the role Philadelphia had in mind. In 55 appearances with Boston and Chicago last season, he averaged 14.3 points while shooting 38.5% from three and 44.0% overall.
He also added 2.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 24.9 minutes per game. His scoring bursts were a regular part of the package, too - he topped 20 points 12 times and dropped a season-high 39 points on Jan. 15 against Miami, going 7-of-16 from deep and 13-of-28 from the field.
According to the Stein Line’s Jake Fischer, the Warriors had interest before Simons chose Philadelphia.
The fit is obvious. Simons has spent most of his career as a 15-plus points-per-game scorer and a 36.0% or better three-point shooter, the kind of guard who can heat up fast and force defenses to scramble. He’s an IMG product who brings quick-twitch handle, deep-range confidence, and the sort of scoring punch that can swing a second unit.
If he keeps producing at that level, the 76ers should get exactly what they were after when they went shopping for bench firepower.

Jayson Tatum Had A Telling First Reaction To Celtics Trading Jaylen Brown
Jayson Tatums first public reaction to the Celtics moving on from Jaylen Brown said plenty about how deep that partnership ran. After nine seasons together, the two had become the defining wings of Bostons core, so even for a franchise that has spent years chasing a title, a change that big was always going to land as something more personal than transactional.
The Celtics are betting that the roster flexibility and future draft assets they picked up will help them stay in the mix, but the human side of the move is harder to ignore. Browns departure leaves Boston with a very different look, and Tatums comments made clear that however the front office frames the deal, the adjustment around the locker room is going to take some time. Celtics Fans May Want To Watch This Summer League Guard Closely
Day Day Thomas has a chance to make a quick impression in Bostons Summer League run in Las Vegas, and he arrives with a profile the Celtics always seem to appreciate. The guard came through Kilgore College before spending three seasons at Cincinnati, where he steadily carved out a role and showed he could help in more than one way.
What makes Thomas worth a closer look is the blend of defensive activity and perimeter touch that has followed him into this opportunity. He was known at Cincinnati as a disruptive defender who could also stretch the floor, and after a clear jump in his three-point shooting there, he now gets a chance to show that skill set can translate when the Celtics are watching most closely. Former Celtics Big Man Just Landed A New NBA Opportunity
Charles Basseys NBA path took another turn this week, and it traces back to a brief stop in Boston before he found a better fit elsewhere. The big man spent a short stretch with the Celtics on two 10-day contracts during the 2025-26 season, a run that gave Boston a look at his size and energy but not much time to make a real evaluation.
Bassey later caught on with Golden State, first on a 10-day deal and then on a longer stay, and the change of scenery clearly suited him. His play with the Warriors stood out well beyond what he showed in Boston, which is why this latest contract news matters for a player still trying to turn fleeting opportunities into something more permanent.
