A tense first half at TD Garden turned physical in tone, if not in punches, when Celtics center Mitchell Robinson and Nets forward Noah Clowney got into a heated exchange Tuesday night during Boston’s matchup with Brooklyn.
The confrontation spilled close to the sideline and quickly drew players and coaches toward the Nets bench. The footage available from the scene did not show any punches thrown, but the moment still escalated enough for Robinson to pick up a technical foul in the first half.

Robinson finished the half with seven points and three rebounds as Brooklyn went into the break holding a 61-56 edge. Later in the night, Boston was up 86-82 on the Nets entering the fourth quarter.
DAZN US later shared the YES Network broadcast angle, giving another look at the exchange and the reaction around the Brooklyn bench.
The scene came in the middle of a physical opening half, with both sides grinding for control in an Atlantic Division game that had plenty of edge. Boston entered Tuesday at 2-1 after falling to the Detroit Pistons and then beating the Knicks and Chicago Bulls, and the Celtics were also on the second night of a back-to-back after routing Chicago 134-99 on Monday.
Robinson is in his first season with Boston after eight years with the New York Knicks. The Celtics signed the 28-year-old center in July to a three-year, $47.4 million deal after he helped New York win its first NBA championship since 1973.

He opened the season as Boston’s starting center and had said before the year that he expected to play both ends of back-to-backs, which was a shift from the way the Knicks handled his workload.

Jayson Tatum Just Delivered A Celtics Reminder In Crunch Time
Jayson Tatum spent 42 minutes reminding everyone why the Celtics can still lean on him when a game turns chaotic, and Boston needed every bit of it in a 125-124 overtime win over the Nets. He was efficient, steady and all over the stat sheet, piling up 40 points on 50% shooting with eight assists, five rebounds and a block while keeping his turnover count at zero.
The performance also pushed Tatum deeper into the Celtics record book, where he added more franchise marks tied to scoring, playmaking and efficiency. Paul George, meanwhile, also left his mark by setting a Celtics record for steals per game, but the lasting image from this one was Tatum taking control when the game was hanging in the balance. Celtics Have A Payton Pritchard Debate That Could Grow Fast
Payton Pritchard has settled into the kind of role that has become valuable to the Celtics in recent years, coming off the bench as a spark and helping drive the offense in the minutes that often decide games. He was a key part of Bostons 2024 title run, then followed that by winning Sixth Man of the Year the next season, which only sharpened the conversation around how much the Celtics should be using him.
Joe Mazzulla appears content to keep Pritchard in that sixth-man lane, with Jordan Walsh getting the start instead, but the debate is starting to bubble up for a reason. When the Celtics are short-handed, there is a clear case for giving Pritchard more runway with the first group, and his shot creation has become too important to treat as a luxury no matter where he enters the game. Jayson Tatum Is Carrying The Celtics In A Way Fans Notice
Jayson Tatum has a way of making early-season games feel bigger than they are, and Monday night was another reminder. He poured in 40 points and finished the job with a game-winning jumper in overtime, lifting the Celtics past the Nets, 125-124, and pushing Boston to 3-1 on the young season. It was the kind of performance that can carry a team through a tight night when nothing comes easy.
There was more to it than just the final shot, too. Tatum controlled the game with the kind of all-around command that keeps showing up for Boston, pairing scoring with playmaking while avoiding mistakes, and in the process reaching a rare Celtics milestone in the process. For a team already leaning on him, it was another night where the load felt heavy but manageable, even if the larger significance of the moment is still settling in. [Read more 🡒]
