Mitchell Robinson Added More Drama To Celtics Win Over Knicks

Mitchell Robinson's triumphant return against his former team not only secured a win for the Celtics but also stirred the basketball world with his pointed online retort to a misinformed fan.

Mitchell Robinson’s first night facing the Knicks in a Celtics uniform came with a win, and apparently a little bonus entertainment after the final buzzer.

Boston edged New York 107-103 at TD Garden on Friday, and Robinson later hopped on Instagram in the early hours of Saturday to clown a fan who seemed to think he was still wearing blue and orange.

“Hey, tell me why a fan, bro, said that we lost tonight?” Robinson said.

“I think he still think I play for the Knicks, and I’m like, ‘You dumb motherfer.’ He a fake fan, bro… I’m out here in Boston just having the time of my life… That na stupid as a b***h.

Telling me, ‘Y’all lost.’ No, n***a, we won.”

The moment landed with extra weight because Robinson really did spend the first eight seasons of his career in New York after the Knicks took him with the No. 36 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He was part of the group that ended the franchise’s 53-year title drought in 2026, when the Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in five games in the NBA Finals.

That Game 5 against the Spurs ended up being his final appearance as a Knick. He was headed for free agency that summer, and once owner James Dolan made it clear the team would not be a second-apron team, a departure became unavoidable.

Robinson eventually landed with the Celtics on a three-year, $47.4 million deal, but the switch still looks strange on nights like this. He has already said he did not want to leave New York, though this chapter now seems firmly behind him.

On the floor, Robinson finished with four points on 2-4 shooting, four rebounds, two assists and one block in 22 minutes. Afterward, he described what it felt like to go against his old team.

“It was cool,” Robinson said, via Celtics on CLNS. “I mean, still NBA. So I mean, playing against them guys, I know them, know all they plays and stuff like that, so kind of just a little battle.”

He also felt his own performance came along after a rough opener. Robinson had been hard on himself after Boston’s 121-113 loss to the Detroit Pistons in Tuesday’s season opener, and he said this outing was a step forward.

“I feel like I played better,” Robinson said. “Not like how I wanted to, but it was way better than the first game, definitely.”

The win was a needed response for Boston after the criticism that followed the loss to Detroit. It also dropped the Knicks to 0-2 while the Celtics moved to 1-1.

Boston’s next chance comes Monday at TD Garden against the Chicago Bulls at 7:30 p.m. ET, with Robinson and the Celtics looking for a second straight win.

Jayson Tatum Delivered The Response Celtics Fans Needed

Jayson Tatum spent much of the night easing into the game, but once the Celtics needed him most, he took over. The Boston forward finished with 36 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a 107-103 win over the Knicks at TD Garden, giving the home crowd the kind of closing stretch it had been waiting for after a slow start.

Boston needed every bit of that second-half surge, especially with New York making it uncomfortable late. Tatum kept answering when the Knicks threatened to flip the game, and Paul George and Neemias Queta chipped in with 15 points apiece to help Boston survive the finish and leave the building with a needed win. Tatum Just Raised The Stakes In Bostons Jaylen Brown Debate

Jayson Tatum spent part of the conversation trying to cool off the noise around Jaylen Brown, saying he holds no animosity toward his former teammate and pointing to what they accomplished together in Boston. The backdrop is already awkward enough after Brown was moved from the Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers, and Tatums comments on his YouTube video only added another layer to a storyline that has followed both players into this season.

Browns response on social media, though, suggested he did not exactly buy the framing. Tatum also pushed back on the media narrative surrounding their relationship and the idea that every meeting between their teams has to be read as something bigger, which only makes the next chapter between them more interesting once the schedule brings them together again. Jayson Tatum Showed The Celtics What They Need From Him

Jayson Tatum spent Monday night looking much more like the engine Boston needs him to be, bouncing back from a rough outing with a performance that steadied the Celtics in their win over the Knicks. His aggressiveness stood out from the start, and the difference was obvious after a previous game in which he struggled to find rhythm or efficiency. For a team that leans on him for scoring, playmaking and tone-setting, that kind of response matters almost as much as the final result.

The Celtics have been waiting for Tatum to fully embrace that leadership role, not just by putting points on the board but by dictating the pace of the game and raising the level around him. What he showed against New York was the version Boston can build around, the one that attacks early, stays engaged and gives the rest of the roster something to follow. The bigger question now is whether that level becomes the standard instead of the exception. [Read more 🡒]
