Team USA's decision to leave Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown off the roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics has certainly stirred the pot. Brown was fresh off a championship win with the Celtics and had earned the Finals MVP honors, making his omission quite the head-scratcher.
Even when Kawhi Leonard of the Los Angeles Clippers withdrew to focus on his knee recovery, Team USA opted for Celtics guard Derrick White as a replacement instead of Brown. It’s no surprise that Brown wasn’t thrilled about being left out.
Now, as we look ahead to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, Brown has a prime opportunity to make the roster and prove his worth. But the question remains: does he still want to don the Team USA jersey?
On the show “Run It Back,” former NBA player Chandler Parsons weighed in, suggesting that Brown should be an obvious choice for the team. “Jaylen Brown is the biggest thing.
They have to figure out Jaylen Brown. Let it go.
Let it go and put him on the team,” Parsons emphasized.
However, Parsons also speculated that Brown might consider playing for another country out of frustration. “He’s the type of dude I feel like is going to go get some citizenship somewhere else though and really stick it to us,” he added.
Co-host Michelle Beadle chimed in, “Go to France. Do you have any French anywhere?” While it's unclear if Brown, who hails from Marietta, Georgia, has any other lineage that could facilitate a new citizenship, the idea certainly adds an intriguing twist.
If Brown were to join France, as Beadle whimsically suggested, he’d bolster an already formidable roster featuring talents like Victor Wembanyama, Rudy Gobert, Zaccharie Risacher, and Alex Sarr. France, after all, fell to Team USA in the gold medal match of the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The next few years could be quite interesting as we watch how this situation unfolds and whether Brown finds his place on the international stage.
