Isaiah Thomas Just Gave Celtics Fans A Painful Reminder

Watch Isaiah Thomas light up the court with a 56-point performance at the Ball Dont Stop Pro-Am, proving he's still got the magic touch that made him a Boston Celtics fan favorite.

Isaiah Thomas reminded everybody in Vancouver that the scoring touch never really left.

A video from the Ball Don’t Stop Pro-Am went viral after the former Boston Celtics guard put up 56 points against a group of young talents. The clip was captioned: “Isaiah Thomas went off for 56 points at the Ball Don't Stop Pro-Am in Vancouver tonight (goat emoji). The epitome of a pure hooper,”

Thomas has long been a familiar face to Canadian fans, and they made that clear again in 2023 when he showed up for the same event and drew an ovation. That night, he faced Payton Pitchard and scored 26 points.

The Ball Don’t Stop Pro-Am has been running since 2016 and has built a reputation as Canada’s summer basketball showcase, bringing together players from high schools, colleges and top professional leagues from around the world in a high-energy, high-competition setting.

Thomas hasn’t appeared in the NBA since the 2023-24 season with the Phoenix Suns. According to Adam Himmelsbach of the Boston Globe, he has since taken on a scouting role with the Celtics, working as a pro and college scout for his former team.

He has already been active in that capacity this year, helping the franchise scout and interview young players during the NBA Combine.

Boston is still where Thomas made his biggest mark. In his time with the Celtics, he earned two NBA All-Star selections and a spot on the All-NBA Second Team. He also finished No. 5 in NBA MVP voting for the 2016-17 season.

But that same year, a hip injury changed the course of his career, and he was never able to fully shake the problems that followed. After Boston, Thomas moved through five teams over the next five NBA seasons he played.

Even now, though, the game remains at the center of his life. And on this night in Vancouver, he looked every bit like a player who can still take over a gym.

Celtics Are About To Learn What Baylor Scheierman Really Means

Baylor Scheiermans second NBA season gave the Celtics a better sense of what they have in the former first-round pick, and it came at a time when Boston was weighing his value against much bigger roster questions. Scheierman went from 31 games as a rookie to 77 in his follow-up season, and the most encouraging part of his development was simple: he shot it more efficiently while earning a steadier role in the rotation.

Now the Celtics need that progress to keep trending in the right direction, because Scheiermans name has already surfaced in serious trade talk before, including an offer from Milwaukee that Boston turned down. For a team built around a championship core, the hope is that he can keep producing enough to matter on the floor and make himself harder to move as the 2027 deadline approaches. [Read more 🡒]

Celtics Are Building Something Early That Should Matter By Camp

While plenty of teams have turned summer workouts into a social-media event, the Celtics have been keeping theirs quieter and, from the sound of it, more purposeful. Payton Pritchard, Jayson Tatum, Paul George, Derrick White, Mike Conley and Sam Hauser have been working together in Los Angeles this offseason, with more players expected to filter in as camp gets closer. It is the kind of low-key gathering that does not need much promotion to matter, especially for a group that already understands how much continuity can help once the real games start.

Pritchard said the bonding has gone well and sounded encouraged by the way Tatum has approached the offseason, expecting another step forward from the Celtics' star. For a team with championship standards and the kind of expectations that travel with them every year, these sessions are less about headlines than habits. The Celtics are trying to make sure the chemistry is there before training camp opens, and if these workouts carry over, they could end up being one of the quieter advantages on their side. Celtics Fans May Owe Shaq A Rethink After That Boston Run

Shaquille ONeals lone season in Boston is easy to reduce to a footnote, especially since his body was already betraying him by the time he arrived. Even so, the Celtics got real value out of him in 2010-11, and when he was available, he fit neatly enough alongside the core pieces to give Boston a different kind of interior presence during the regular season.

The larger frustration, of course, is that the stretch never turned into the payoff the franchise and its fans were chasing. Injuries kept him from being a consistent part of the rotation, and the Celtics never got the championship ending that would have made the move feel fully vindicated, which is why that brief run still invites a second look all these years later.
