Charles Bassey’s NBA path now includes another stop, and this one keeps him in the Bay Area.
The former Celtics center has signed with the Golden State Warriors, according to the NBA’s transaction log on Friday. Boston only had a short look at him last season, and now the team will be watching from the other side while he tries to carve out a bigger role in Golden State.
Bassey is a 6-foot-10 center who came into the league with plenty of pedigree. He was a top-10 recruit in the Class of 2018, made the uncommon jump to Western Kentucky, and then went in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.
Since then, he has bounced through the 76ers, Spurs, Grizzlies, Celtics and Warriors.
His time in Boston was brief. Bassey joined the Celtics in March of 2026 on a 10-day contract, appeared in five games, and later signed a second 10-day deal. In that stretch, he logged just 3.4 minutes per game, but he did make the most of a tiny sample, shooting 85.7% from the field by going 6-for-7.
He finished his Celtics run with averages of 2.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.
After that second 10-day contract expired, Bassey finished the season with Golden State, where he signed a 10-day deal of his own. That stint looked much more like the version of Bassey the Warriors wanted to keep around. In five games with the Warriors, he played 20.0 minutes per game and posted 10.6 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game.
It was the strongest production he has shown in the NBA, even if it came in a small sample. That stretch appears to have been enough for Golden State to bring him back this offseason.
Boston, meanwhile, is set at center with Mitchell Robinson and Neemias Queta leading the way inside. If Bassey pops in Golden State, the Celtics probably won’t lose much sleep over it - but they did get a look before he moved on.

Jayson Tatum Had A Telling First Reaction To Celtics Trading Jaylen Brown
Jayson Tatums first public reaction to the Celtics moving on from Jaylen Brown said plenty about how deep that partnership ran. After nine seasons together, the two had become the defining wings of Bostons core, so even for a franchise that has spent years chasing a title, a change that big was always going to land as something more personal than transactional.
The Celtics are betting that the roster flexibility and future draft assets they picked up will help them stay in the mix, but the human side of the move is harder to ignore. Browns departure leaves Boston with a very different look, and Tatums comments made clear that however the front office frames the deal, the adjustment around the locker room is going to take some time. Celtics Fans May Want To Watch This Summer League Guard Closely
Day Day Thomas has a chance to make a quick impression in Bostons Summer League run in Las Vegas, and he arrives with a profile the Celtics always seem to appreciate. The guard came through Kilgore College before spending three seasons at Cincinnati, where he steadily carved out a role and showed he could help in more than one way.
What makes Thomas worth a closer look is the blend of defensive activity and perimeter touch that has followed him into this opportunity. He was known at Cincinnati as a disruptive defender who could also stretch the floor, and after a clear jump in his three-point shooting there, he now gets a chance to show that skill set can translate when the Celtics are watching most closely.
