Celtics Stun with Big Man's Impact in Victory Over Wizards

Celtics faith in unproven talent pays off as Neemias Queta and Jayson Tatum shine in a crucial win over the Wizards.

The Celtics got back on track with a solid win over the Washington Wizards, shaking off their recent back-to-back losses. While the game tightened up in the final quarter, Boston maintained control, cruising to a 111-100 victory.

Rebounding Masterclass

The Celtics showed a marked improvement in their rebounding game compared to their last matchup with the Wizards. Previously, Boston struggled on the boards, ranking 29th in defensive rebounding percentage.

But Saturday's game was a different story. The Celtics have since climbed to eighth in defensive rebound percentage, and it was evident on the court.

Despite shooting struggles in the first quarter, hitting just 11 of 27 shots, Boston dominated the glass. They nearly matched the Wizards’ total rebounds with offensive boards alone, grabbing eight to Washington's nine. Those second chances translated into seven crucial points, helping the Celtics secure an early lead.

Boston’s rebounding dominance was consistent throughout the game. By the third quarter, they had more than doubled Washington's rebound total, leading 34 to 16. By the end, the Celtics outrebounded the Wizards 55-38, a clear testament to their improved effort on the boards.

Neemias Queta Steps Up

With the Wizards still reeling from Bam Adebayo's historic scoring night, they faced another big challenge in Celtics' Neemias Queta. While Queta didn’t reach Adebayo’s heights, he delivered an impressive performance, setting a new career-high with 22 points in the first half alone.

Queta was a force in the paint, easily rolling to the rim and showcasing some slick moves with upfakes and hook shots. He finished the game with 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block, proving to be a significant factor in Boston’s victory.

Tatum’s Steady Return

Jayson Tatum continued his comeback journey with another double-double, his second in four games since returning from an Achilles injury. Tatum posted 20 points, 14 rebounds, and seven assists, shooting 9-20 from the field and 2-9 from three-point range.

While Tatum’s scoring isn’t quite back to pre-injury levels, he showed flashes of his dominant self, particularly in a strong third-quarter performance. His minutes are gradually increasing, with this game marking the first time he surpassed 27 minutes this season, clocking in at 32.

The Celtics' win over the Wizards highlighted their rebounding prowess and showcased the potential of players like Queta, while Tatum's progress continues to be a positive sign for Boston's future.
