Celtics Sign Former Top-10 Recruit, Adding Intrigue to Their Roster

Celtics bolster their frontcourt by signing former top-10 recruit Charles Bassey, aiming to tap into his potential for crucial depth.

The Boston Celtics have bolstered their roster with some much-needed size, bringing in Charles Bassey on a 10-day contract. This move, reported by Michael Scotto, adds an intriguing layer to the Celtics' frontcourt.

Bassey's journey to the NBA has been anything but conventional. Once a top-10 recruit, he opted for Western Kentucky, a decision that set him on a unique path. Drafted 53rd overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021, the 6-foot-10 center has since carved out a niche in the league.

His career has seen him suit up for multiple teams, including the San Antonio Spurs, where he appeared in 90 games. During his time with the Spurs, Bassey averaged 12.1 minutes, contributing 4.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. His stints with the 76ers and Memphis Grizzlies were more limited, with just 7.3 minutes per game during his rookie season in Philadelphia.

This season, Bassey had brief appearances with the Grizzlies, logging 31 minutes over two games and tallying 7 points and 15 rebounds. His return to the 76ers saw him play a single game, managing two points and a block in five minutes.

For the Celtics, Bassey offers a potential boost to their depth in the paint. While it remains to be seen how impactful this short-term addition will be, Bassey's talent gives him the chance to make a meaningful contribution if he can capitalize on the opportunity.
