The Bradley Beal market is still stuck in the same traffic jam as everyone else, and LeBron James is the reason. Until James decides where he’s going, teams looking for help on the wing and in the backcourt are left waiting - and that includes the Celtics, who have been linked to Beal.
Boston’s interest in the former star guard has already been reported, but nothing has moved yet. According to Matt Issa, that delay may have less to do with Beal himself and more to do with the larger domino effect around James.
“Bradley Beal only played six games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season before sustaining a season-ending hip injury. Beal had a player option to return in 2026-27, but he opted to decline it in order to hit free agency, which makes me think he wants to join a more apparent contending team. Again, all the contenders who need a playmaker/scorer are waiting on James, so Beal is probably not going to sign anywhere until James does,” Matt Issa wrote.
Beal’s situation comes with obvious caveats. He’s not the same player he once was, but he still fits the profile of a scorer and playmaker that contenders are chasing. That’s part of why his next move remains tied up in the broader James decision.
There’s also the Boston angle, and it matters because of Jayson Tatum. Tatum has plenty of say in how things go with the Celtics, and if he wants Beal in the mix, that would carry real weight. For now, though, Boston appears to be in the same holding pattern as everyone else, waiting for James to make the first move.
