Ranger Suárez is already making himself at home in Boston-and he's doing it in style.
Fresh off inking a new deal with the Red Sox, the 2024 All-Star pitcher made a high-profile appearance at TD Garden on Wednesday night, taking in the Celtics' matchup against the Indiana Pacers. Suárez, joined by his agent Scott Boras, was greeted with a warm ovation when the duo popped up on the jumbotron. For a fanbase that knows its sports, it was a clear sign: Boston is ready to embrace its newest arm.

And why not? Suárez is coming off a strong campaign, posting a 3.20 ERA last season and earning All-Star honors. With the Red Sox looking to rebound from another postseason miss, his arrival is part of a broader push to retool and stay competitive in a loaded division.
While Suárez was soaking in the Boston energy, the Celtics were doing their part to keep the home crowd buzzing. Coming off a razor-thin loss to the Pistons-a 104-103 heartbreaker against the East leaders-the Celtics bounced back in convincing fashion against the Pacers.
Jaylen Brown led the charge, dropping 30 points on 50% shooting while adding 10 rebounds and five assists. It was the kind of all-around performance that’s become routine for Brown, who continues to anchor Boston’s offense with poise and power.
But it wasn’t just Brown. The Celtics got contributions across the board, with all five starters hitting double digits.
Sam Hauser and Neemias Queta each poured in 17 points, Payton Pritchard added 13, and Derrick White chipped in 10. The result?
A comfortable 119-104 win that pushed Boston to 27-16 on the season and kept them firmly in the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference.
As for the Red Sox, they’re hoping some of that Celtics momentum rubs off. After watching third baseman Alex Bregman head to the Cubs in free agency, Boston responded by adding veteran catcher-turned-first baseman Willson Contreras and bolstering their rotation with Suárez and former Cy Young contender Sonny Gray.
It’s a solid offseason haul, but the AL East isn’t exactly forgiving. The path back to October will demand more than just talent-it’ll take consistency, health, and a little bit of that Boston grit.
Next up for the Celtics: a road trip to Brooklyn, where they’ll face the Nets on Friday to kick off a two-game swing. And who knows? Maybe Suárez will be watching that one too-this time from a little farther away, but just as locked in.
