The Boston Celtics may be willing to listen on one of their most popular role players, but that doesn’t mean a Sam Hauser deal is likely to happen anytime soon.
Sean Deveney reported that Boston “would be open to moving Hauser still,” though he added that it would be a longshot because the Celtics probably “won’t get a player more valuable than him at is contract number.” Hauser has three years and $35 million left on his contract.
The reasoning, according to the report, comes back to Boston’s position near the luxury tax line. Deveney wrote that’s why the Celtics did not trade Hauser in a deal to use their $27 million traded player exception.
That possibility fits a larger pattern for Boston. Over the offseason and in recent years, Brad Stevens has shown he’s willing to keep adjusting the roster if he sees a way to make the team better, especially with the CBA in play.
