Bulls Problems Got Exposed Fast In Blowout Loss To Boston

Jayson Tatum and Payton Pritchard led the Boston Celtics to a decisive victory over the Chicago Bulls, showcasing teamwork and individual brilliance in their impressive 134-99 win.

The Celtics spent the first half trading punches with Chicago, but the game tilted hard once Jayson Tatum took control and Payton Pritchard lit up the third quarter. Boston rolled to a 134-99 win and improved to 2-1.

Tatum set the tone early with five assists in the opening stretch, and Boston also got a spark from the bench when Hugo Gonzalez chipped in seven quick points. The Celtics built a 16-point cushion, only to see the Bulls answer with a 15-2 run that cut the margin to three.

Boston steadied itself from there, responding with an 8-1 burst to restore a double-digit edge and take a 12-point lead into halftime. Then came the avalanche from deep.

The Celtics started burying threes in the third quarter, pushed the lead to 30 by the end of the period, and the fourth quarter was just cleanup work.

Tatum finished with 23 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, and his first-half impact showed up in a big way when he was on the floor. The starter +/- told the story: Paul George was -3, Derrick White was 0, Jordan Walsh was +4, Mitchell Robinson was +8, and Tatum led the way at +19. Chicago’s best runs came when Tatum sat, and Boston’s recovery to a 12-point halftime lead traced right back to him.

Pritchard was the hammer. He went 5-5 from three in the third quarter alone, and Boston’s lead ballooned from 10 to 30 almost immediately.

He scored 19 in the quarter, matching a career high for points in any quarter, and ended with 28 points in 21 minutes. Third quarters have clearly become his favorite hunting ground - he now has four 19-point quarters, and three of them have come in the third.

Gonzalez gave Boston real minutes, too. He was plus-15 at halftime with the Celtics ahead by 12, and while some of that number was tied to the Pritchard eruption, the impact was visible on both ends. He hadn’t done much in his first couple of games, but this one was different.

There were other useful signs scattered through the win. Tatum and Mitchell Robinson kept showing signs that their pick-and-roll game is coming together.

Luka Garza made his presence felt on the offensive glass when the Bulls were still hanging around, drawing contact and helping open things up for Baylor Scheierman on one play. On the flip side, Boston’s foul trouble kept Chicago in it early, with the Bulls getting to the line 31 times.

The Celtics also gave it away far too often, finishing with 24 turnovers. Chicago matched that total, but Boston turned those miscues into 39 points while the Bulls managed 17.

Against better teams, that kind of sloppiness will be a different story.

Celtics Get A Chance To Expose One Early Bulls Weakness

The Celtics are about to get an early look at one of Chicagos most obvious problems, and it comes in an area Boston usually likes to stress anyway. Through the first stretch of the season, the Bulls have had a hard time making shots from deep, which makes this matchup a chance for the Celtics to close out hard, contest cleanly and see whether Chicago can generate offense some other way.

For Boston, that kind of test matters because the Bulls are still willing to launch from outside, even if the results have been rough. If the Celtics can turn those attempts into a night of rushed looks and missed opportunities, they could help determine whether Chicagos perimeter issues are just a small-sample slump or something more troubling. Luka Garza Just Gave Celtics Fans A Real Reason To Trust Him

Luka Garza got a real run in Bostons home opener against the Knicks, and he made it hard to ignore him. With the Celtics other centers slowed by foul trouble, Garza logged significant minutes and gave the front line a lift with a timely three, defensive stops and work on the offensive glass in a 107-103 win that had plenty of swing moments.

For a Celtics team that needs energy and dependable support behind its primary big men, that kind of contribution matters. Garza did more than simply hold down the fort, he helped stabilize the rotation and showed he can be part of the answer when the game gets messy inside. [Read more 🡒]

Kevin Garnett Just Added A Wild Twist To How Boston Landed Him

Kevin Garnetts path to Boston already carried plenty of league lore, but he added another layer in a recent interview by revisiting just how close he came to ending up elsewhere. After years in Minnesota, Garnett said he was ready for a change and credited Chauncey Billups with pushing him to move on, a conversation that helped set the stage for one of the most important roster swings in Celtics history. What followed was a trip to Boston that changed the franchises trajectory and eventually ended with a title in 2008.

Garnett also said he weighed the fit carefully before making his choice, including reaching out for perspective on how things might work with Paul Pierce. The final decision came in a period when the Lakers were also in the picture, which makes the twist all the more striking in hindsight, especially given how his bond with Kobe Bryant later remained respectful and warm. Garnett was inducted into the Hall of Fame with Bryant in 2021, a fitting cap to a rivalry that never turned personal even as the path to Boston took an unexpected turn. [Read more 🡒]
