Jaylen Brown is soaking in the All-Star spotlight this weekend, and deservingly so. With Jayson Tatum sidelined due to a torn Achilles, Brown has stepped up in a major way for the Celtics, delivering the best season of his career. He’s averaging 29.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 48.3% from the field-numbers that have not only earned him his fifth All-Star nod but also sparked legitimate MVP buzz.
But even in the middle of a career year and a celebration of the league’s best, Brown found himself on the receiving end of a lighthearted jab from fellow All-Star Anthony Edwards. During a media session, the Timberwolves guard was asked a playful question: which All-Star would he not let date his sister?
Edwards didn’t hesitate. “These boys ain’t no sharks, so I ain’t really worried about none of these boys,” he said with a grin.
“But Imma go with Jaylen Brown. He from the city, he can’t date my sister.”
Now, let’s be clear-this was all in good fun. Edwards has a reputation for being one of the most charismatic and entertaining personalities in the league, and this was just another example of that charm on display.
Still, it was a surprising pick, especially considering Brown’s off-court reputation as one of the more cerebral, socially conscious players in the NBA. He’s not exactly the guy you’d expect to catch a stray in a question like that.
For Brown, this probably won’t register as anything more than a funny moment in an otherwise celebratory weekend. But knowing his competitive streak, don’t be shocked if he files it away for the next time Boston and Minnesota meet. That’s just how elite players operate-they find motivation in the smallest things.
For now, though, Brown’s focus is on enjoying the All-Star festivities and continuing to represent the Celtics on the league’s biggest stage. With the way he’s been playing this season, he’s earned every bit of that spotlight.
