MONTREAL -- In a game that was as intense as it was thrilling, Andrew Peeke became an impromptu goalie, blocking a crucial Nick Suzuki shot with just over three minutes left in regulation. With the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens deadlocked at 2-2, Peeke’s quick thinking and defensive instincts shone through. He dropped to his knees, shielding the puck until Jeremy Swayman could secure it, halting the play.
“I saw him winding up, so I just tried to play goalie for a moment,” Peeke explained. “I knew I couldn’t cover the puck with my hand, so I created a barrier and took the hits. At that point, it’s all about scrambling and doing what you can.”
Peeke’s heroic moment, along with Pavel Zacha’s two-goal performance, propelled the Bruins into overtime. Despite their efforts, they fell 3-2 to the Canadiens at Bell Centre, wrapping up their road trip. The Bruins managed to snag four out of a possible six points during the three-game stretch.
“Coming off a back-to-back and playing in Montreal, the guys showed tremendous effort,” said head coach Marco Sturm. “The Canadiens were ready for us, but our team deserves a lot of credit for their hard work.”
Jeremy Swayman was pivotal, too, making 28 saves in his 45th appearance of the season.
“I’m really proud of our group and the resilience we showed,” Swayman said. “Understanding the importance of this game and playing a full 60 minutes was crucial, especially at this point in the season.”
Even after facing the New Jersey Devils the night before, the Bruins started strong against Montreal. Tanner Jeannot took a high stick to the face early on, earning Boston a four-minute power play just 25 seconds into the game, which they capitalized on effectively.
This game was a testament to the Bruins' grit and determination, setting the stage for an exciting finish to the season.
