Jeremy Swayman Stuns Red Wings Earning High Praise From Marco Sturm

Jeremy Swayman's stellar performance against the Red Wings cements his status as a key player in the Bruins' playoff push, earning remarkable accolades from head coach Marco Sturm.

In a thrilling Saturday night showdown, two of the NHL's storied Original Six teams, the Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins, faced off in a crucial Eastern Conference Wild Card race. Both teams entered the night holding playoff positions, but it was the Bruins who skated away with a pivotal victory at Detroit's Little Caesars Arena.

The Bruins' win was orchestrated with flair, thanks in large part to Morgan Geekie, who set up three goals with precision passing. Yet, the real star of the night was goaltender Jeremy Swayman. Hailing from Anchorage, Alaska, Swayman was nothing short of spectacular, stopping 41 shots and earning high praise from his coach, Marco Sturm.

“That was the best I’ve seen Swayman play since I’ve been around,” Sturm remarked. “He was unbelievable - he won the game for us.”

Sturm wasn't the only one impressed. Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan acknowledged the challenge Swayman posed, despite being pleased with his own team's performance.

“I liked our game - I think if we play that game over again and get some puck luck, we might score a few more times,” McLellan noted. “But you also have to tip your cap to the goaltender for playing a great game.”

Swayman has been a standout this season, ranking third in Wins Above Replacement (WAR) among goalies, according to Evolving Hockey. He also holds the third spot for Goals Saved Above Expected, boasting a .908 save percentage over 47 games in the 2025-26 season.

With this win, the Bruins now claim sole possession of the first Wild Card spot in the East. They'll aim to extend their lead when they face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. This victory not only solidifies their playoff hopes but also showcases the kind of performances that could make them a formidable force in the postseason.
