Fraser Minten Named NHL Rookie of the Month After Red-Hot January for Bruins
The Boston Bruins have a rising star on their hands, and the league is officially taking notice. On February 1, the NHL named forward Fraser Minten its Rookie of the Month for January-and it’s not hard to see why.
Minten didn’t just have a good month. He owned it.
The 21-year-old led all NHL rookies in goals with eight and tied for the most points with 14. He was especially lethal at even strength, netting seven of those goals without the help of the power play-more than any other rookie in January. He also tied for second in even strength points (11) and added three more on the man advantage, showing off a versatile scoring touch that’s quickly becoming a staple of his game.
His 14-point outburst ties the highest monthly total by any rookie this season, and he did it while shooting at a blistering 32% clip (minimum two shots). That’s not just efficient-that’s surgical.
Minten becomes the first Bruins player to earn Rookie of the Month honors since goaltender Jeremy Swayman back in March 2022. But unlike Swayman, who made his mark between the pipes, Minten is making his impact felt in the offensive zone-and fast.
Through 55 games this season, Minten has racked up 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points, placing him sixth on Boston’s scoring chart. Among NHL rookies, he’s currently sixth in total points and fourth in goals.
But perhaps most impressively, he leads all rookie skaters in plus-minus at +20-a number that not only tops the rookie leaderboard but also ranks second among all Bruins and 20th across the entire league. That’s a strong indicator of how much he’s helping Boston control the game when he’s on the ice.
January was a statement month for the Vancouver native, who logged points in eight of the Bruins’ 14 games, including four multi-point efforts. He kicked things off in style with a two-goal performance in a 3-2 overtime win over Vancouver on January 3, capping the night with the game-winner.
A week later, he lit up the Rangers for three points (2G, 1A) in a 10-2 blowout at TD Garden. And to close the month, he dropped another three-point gem against the Flyers on January 29.
That last performance put him in some pretty exclusive company-he became the first Bruins rookie to record multiple three-point games in a single month since Jake DeBrusk did it back in 2018.
Minten’s NHL journey has already taken a few twists. Drafted 38th overall by Toronto in 2022, he was acquired by Boston in a March 2025 trade that sent defenseman Brandon Carlo to the Maple Leafs.
The Bruins also picked up a 2026 first-rounder and a 2025 fourth-round pick (used on prospect Vashek Blanar) in the deal. At the time, it was a bold move.
Now, it’s looking like a franchise-altering one.
At 6-foot-2 and 204 pounds, Minten brings size, skill, and a composed two-way game that’s translating quickly to the NHL level. He’s played in 80 career games between Boston and Toronto, tallying 17 goals and 17 assists. But it’s clear his best hockey is still ahead of him-and Bruins fans have every reason to be excited.
If January is any indication, Fraser Minten isn’t just fitting in-he’s starting to take over.
