The New England Patriots are making headlines this offseason as they look to bolster their offensive line. Reports swirled about their interest in Green Bay Packers' left tackle Rasheed Walker, who's poised to hit free agency. However, Patriots executive vice president of player personnel, Eliot Wolf, was quick to dismiss these rumors at the NFL Combine.
“I saw that report. And it’s not true,” Wolf clarified.
“He’s under contract with the Packers right now. Plus, the teams mentioned both drafted left tackles in the first round last year, so that doesn’t quite add up.”
Despite shooting down the Walker rumor, Wolf didn't shy away from acknowledging the team's need at offensive tackle. With Vederian Lowe and Thayer Munford entering free agency and veteran Morgan Moses turning 35, the Patriots have some decisions to make.
Moses is expected to return for the 2026 season, joining Will Campbell as the starting tackles. Campbell, who was the fourth overall pick last year, had a rocky season. After missing five games due to an MCL injury, he struggled in the playoffs, particularly in Super Bowl LX, where quarterback Drake Maye faced relentless pressure.
These struggles have sparked discussions about Campbell’s role at left tackle. Yet, head coach Mike Vrabel remains confident, affirming Campbell as the team’s left tackle moving forward.
Wolf echoed this confidence, noting, “When he came back from that injury, I didn’t see the same lower body strength. His playoff performance wasn’t his best, but before that, Will played really well.
Everyone talks about his arm length, but he compensates with quickness and technical skill. He’s just 22, and we expect him to improve.”
As the Patriots navigate their offseason strategy, the focus remains on reinforcing their offensive line, ensuring both protection for their quarterback and a solid foundation for the future.
