Drake Maye Says He’s “Feeling Great” Ahead of Super Bowl LX, Shoulder No Longer a Concern
After the Patriots punched their ticket to Super Bowl LX with a gritty AFC Championship win over the Broncos, all eyes shifted to quarterback Drake Maye - and more specifically, his right shoulder. There were a few raised eyebrows following the game, as Maye appeared to be favoring the shoulder late in the second half. But if there was any real concern inside the Patriots' building, it’s evaporated quickly.
Maye was back on the practice field this week and, according to the team’s first official injury report, he was a full participant. That’s a strong indicator that the rookie signal-caller is ready to go for the biggest game of his young career. And if you ask him, there’s no smoke and mirrors here.
“I’m not trying to lie to you guys when I say I’m feeling great,” Maye told reporters Thursday morning. “I’m feeling great, and looking forward to getting out there today. Another day of practice, we got one tomorrow, and feeling pretty good.”
That’s not just a quarterback putting on a brave face. Everything coming out of Foxborough this week - from the practice reports to Maye’s own body language - suggests he’s locked in and physically ready for the moment.
The Patriots will release their next two practice reports on Thursday and Friday, with the final injury designations due ahead of Sunday’s showdown with the Seahawks. But unless something changes drastically, Maye’s trending toward entering Super Bowl LX with a clean bill of health.
For a team that’s leaned heavily on its young quarterback’s poise and playmaking all season, that’s exactly what they want to hear.
