Charlie Coyle Stuns Fans in Return to the Garden

Charlie Coyle returns to his roots at the Garden, reflecting on cherished memories with the Bruins while making significant strides with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Charlie Coyle's Homecoming and New Beginnings

Charlie Coyle, the beloved Weymouth native, made his return to the Garden as a Columbus Blue Jacket, a moment filled with emotion for both him and the fans who cherished his six-plus years with the Bruins. It was his first time back since being traded to the Colorado Avalanche last March.

Reflecting on his return, Coyle shared, “It’s a special thing, playing in the Garden again. I missed it. But now, wearing a different jersey, I’ve got to focus because it’s a big game for us with the Bruins right ahead in the standings.”

Playing for the Bruins was a dream come true for Coyle. “I was fortunate to play for such great teams and learn from amazing players and coaches.

Playing for an Original Six team, especially one I grew up watching, was truly special,” he said. “I feel very lucky to have had that experience, and I’ll always cherish those memories.”

Now, Coyle has embraced a new chapter with the Columbus Blue Jackets. After being traded in the offseason, he’s found his groove, contributing significantly with 15 goals and 27 assists in 56 games.

“It’s been a great fit. The team made huge strides last year, just missing the playoffs, and I’m here to add my experience and play my part,” he explained.

Swayman Sits, Ready for Action

Bruins coach Marco Sturm decided to rest Jeremy Swayman, opting for Joonas Korpisalo as the starter and Michael DiPietro as backup. Sturm plans to have Swayman ready for Saturday’s game in Philadelphia, emphasizing the importance of practice and preparation.

Honoring Johnny Gaudreau

A poignant moment followed Team USA's gold medal win, as players brought the late Johnny Gaudreau’s children onto the ice for the team photo. Gaudreau, who tragically passed away in 2024, was a beloved figure in the hockey community.

Zach Werenski, who played with Gaudreau, reflected on the moment: “Seeing his jersey every day in Columbus and having his family there, it was all about making him proud. Bringing his kids on the ice was truly special.”

Werenski also played a crucial role in the gold medal game, assisting Jack Hughes for the winning goal. “There were so many big plays leading up to that moment. It was a team effort, but I’m honored to have been part of it,” he said with a smile.
