Bruins Win Thriller as Geekie Hits Major Career Milestone Late

Morgan Geekie capped a milestone night with a clutch goal as the Bruins edged their rivals in a high-octane showdown of power-play prowess.

Morgan Geekie picked a perfect moment to hit a career milestone. With under six minutes left in regulation and the game tied at three, the Bruins forward buried his 100th career goal - and it couldn’t have come at a more clutch time. The power-play tally stood as the game-winner, lifting Boston to a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night at TD Garden.

Geekie’s second goal of the night came just 12 seconds after Montreal had tied it up, capping off a wild stretch of back-and-forth action. Fraser Minten had just knotted the game at 3-3 with a slick backhander past Jeremy Swayman, but the Bruins didn’t blink. On the ensuing power play, Boston went right back to work, and Geekie delivered - a quick-strike response that showed the kind of poise this team has been playing with lately.

Viktor Arvidsson also found the back of the net for the Bruins, while Charlie McAvoy quietly had himself a night with three assists. McAvoy was instrumental in keeping Boston’s offense humming, especially on the man advantage, where the Bruins cashed in on three of four opportunities. That’s the kind of special teams efficiency that wins games in January - and come spring, can swing playoff series.

Jeremy Swayman turned away 22 shots in net, doing just enough to hold off a Canadiens squad that came in with some firepower - and most of it courtesy of Cole Caufield. The Montreal winger was electric, notching his second career hat trick and keeping the Habs in it from start to finish.

His first goal came early in the opening frame and extended his point streak to five games. His second and third tallies - both on the power play and both from nearly the same spot below the left circle - showcased his elite release and accuracy.

That third goal gave Montreal a 3-2 lead midway through the third, and for a moment, it looked like Caufield might steal the show.

But the Bruins had other plans. David Pastrnak set up Geekie’s first goal with a textbook feed after creating space, and Boston’s power play kept clicking. The second period alone featured four combined power-play goals - a special teams showcase that tilted the game in Boston’s favor just enough.

With the win, the Bruins have now taken 10 of their last 12 games and have strung together seven straight victories at home. That’s the kind of stretch that builds confidence and momentum - especially when you’re getting contributions up and down the lineup, from stars like Pastrnak and McAvoy to depth pieces like Geekie stepping up in big moments.

For Montreal, Caufield’s performance was a bright spot. His hat trick - the first by a Canadiens player in Boston since 1997 - was a reminder of the kind of offensive talent he brings every night. But it wasn’t enough to snap Boston’s home streak or slow down a Bruins team that’s finding its rhythm at just the right time.
