Bruins Showed One Late Problem Fans Cant Ignore

The Boston Bruins' winning streak is halted by a thrilling overtime contest against the Dallas Stars, despite securing points during their road trip.

The Bruins left Dallas with seven of eight points from their four-game road trip, but the finish came with a sting.

Boston’s five-game win streak ended Tuesday night in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars at American Airlines Center. Matt Poitras and James Hagens scored for the Bruins, while Mikko Rantanen’s hat trick carried Dallas. Jeremy Swayman stopped 22 of 25 shots in the loss.

The Bruins came out sharper than they had earlier in the trip, and their first goal was built by the kids. Frederic Brunet moved the puck across ice to Poitras, who hammered a one-timer from the slot past Jake Oettinger. The goal pushed Poitras to a four-game point streak, now at 3-1-4.

Boston’s night on special teams never quite clicked. The Bruins came up empty on their first power play without putting a shot on net, then had to kill off a late first-period roughing minor to Tanner Jeannot after he threw a right cross at Radek Faksa following a whistle.

Dallas answered early in the second. Rantanen capitalized after Fraser Minten couldn’t corral a pass from Mason Lohrei, then buried the rebound after his first shot on Swayman.

Boston had a quick response. Casey Mittelstadt carried the puck into the offensive zone, circled behind Oettinger’s net, and fed the front. Hagens then beat Miro Heiskanen to the puck and redirected it in to put the Bruins back ahead just 4:40 later.

But the power play never found a rhythm. The Bruins went scoreless on four chances, including a stretch in the second period when they finally began getting shots through, only to come away empty. They opened the third with another man advantage after Morgan Geekie drew a holding call on Sam Steel 43 seconds in, and that chance also went by without a goal.

Rantanen pulled Dallas even with 6:22 left in regulation. He worked the puck to Roope Hintz from behind the goal line, Hintz’s shot hit Charlie McAvoy’s shin, and the rebound landed right back on Rantanen’s stick for a glove-side finish.

Overtime didn’t last long once the Stars got the extra-man chance. Swayman turned aside Wyatt Johnston twice to start the period, but Pavel Zacha was whistled for slashing. Rantanen then ended it with a backhand high over Swayman.

The Bruins didn’t record a shot on goal over the final 16:35. They now turn to Nashville on Thursday.

Bruins Waste Big Opportunity In Loss That Leaves One Clear Concern

The Bruins left Dallas with a point but not the result they wanted, falling 3-2 in overtime at American Airlines Center in a game that felt like a missed chance for a team sitting atop the Atlantic Division and tied for first in the Eastern Conference. Boston had enough strong stretches to make the trip feel winnable, with Jeremy Swayman, Matthew Poitras and Nikita Zadorov among the players who helped keep the game on track.

Still, the details of how the loss unfolded will linger. Boston could not cash in on a key advantage when it needed to separate itself, and by the time overtime arrived, the margin for error had already disappeared. Against a Dallas team led by Mikko Rantanens big night, the Bruins were left with a reminder that even a solid overall performance can turn into an expensive lesson when one area of the game goes missing at the wrong time. Bruins Gave Fans One More Reason To Watch Khusnutdinov Closely

The Bruins wrapped up a four-game road trip at 3-0-1, a solid stretch that still ended with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Stars in Dallas. Boston had enough going in the right direction to leave the trip with positives, even if Mikko Rantanens hat trick ultimately swung the night for the home team.

Amid that backdrop, theres a reason to keep a closer eye on Marat Khusnutdinov, who has become part of the conversation around Bostons roster beyond just the immediate results on the ice. The Bruins are also being linked to a possible move involving Dylan Larkins trade landscape, while a few other familiar names around the league have recently found themselves back where they started, adding to a busy stretch of NHL storylines. Bruins Suddenly Have A Real Chance In A Surprising Trade Watch

A quiet contract standoff in Detroit has suddenly put the Bruins in the middle of an interesting trade watch. Simon Edvinsson and his agent recently met with interim GM Shawn Horcoff as the Red Wings continue to work toward an extension, and Boston is among the teams keeping tabs on the situation as the 6-foot-6 defensemans future hangs in the balance.

Edvinsson has not formally asked out, but the longer talks drag on, the more likely a move starts to look if no deal comes together. Detroit still says it wants to keep him, yet there is clearly enough outside interest to make this one worth monitoring, with the Bruins one of the clubs that could benefit if the Red Wings decide to revisit the market.
