The Boston Bruins struck gold at last June's NHL Draft, and it's paying off in a big way. Picking seventh, the expectations were high for GM Don Sweeney to land a player who could make a difference down the line. Enter James Hagens.
When it was Boston's turn to pick, the hockey world was buzzing. James Hagens, once projected as the top overall pick, was still on the board. The New York Islanders, who snagged Matthew Schaeffer with the first pick, were keen on trading up to get Hagens, but the Bruins seized the moment.
Hagens is now a standout among Bruins prospects at Boston College, consistently turning heads. In a crucial matchup against UConn, with NCAA Tournament hopes on the line, Hagens delivered yet again.
James Hagens Shines with Hat Trick in BC's Victory Over UConn
On Friday night, the Long Island native put on a show, netting three goals in Boston College's 5-2 triumph over the Huskies at Conte Forum. The teams are set for a rematch Saturday afternoon at UConn.
Hagens kicked things off with a power-play goal in the first period, sneaking a shot past the goalie for a 1-0 lead. He doubled the lead with a blistering slap shot through traffic later in the period. Completing his hat trick in the second period, Hagens scored the game-winner with another power-play one-timer from a cross-ice pass.
Adding to the excitement, Bruins prospect Andre Gasseau notched three assists, helping the Eagles inch closer to an NCAA Tournament berth. With the weekend sweep in sight, Boston College looks to keep the momentum going on Saturday.
