Could the Bruins Make a Big Trade This Summer?
The Boston Bruins played it cool at the 2026 NHL trade deadline, with their most noteworthy move being the acquisition of former first-round pick Lukas Reichel from the Vancouver Canucks for a sixth-round pick. They also completed a minor-league trade with the Philadelphia Flyers. While these moves didn't shake the league, they reflect the Bruins' current position-not quite top contenders, but still very much in the playoff hunt.
However, the Bruins have a glaring need for another star forward. This raises the question: could they be gearing up for a major move this summer?
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun recently explored potential off-season trade candidates and spotlighted St. Louis Blues star center Robert Thomas as a player the Bruins might target.
Thomas was on the Bruins' radar leading up to the deadline, as he would have provided a definitive solution for their first-line center position. At 26 years old and signed through the 2030-31 season, Thomas could seamlessly fit into a Bruins team looking to retool.
The prospect of Thomas donning a Bruins jersey is certainly intriguing, but acquiring him would come at a steep price. The Bruins would need to weigh the potential benefits against the cost to determine if this blockbuster move is the right step for their future.
