The Boston Bruins may have a familiar name worth watching if the Vancouver Canucks decide to shake things up before the trade deadline.
Jake DeBrusk has started showing up on trade bait boards around the NHL, and that alone makes him a player Boston should have on its radar. If Vancouver turns into a seller, the Bruins could have a real chance to revisit a player who already spent the first seven seasons of his NHL career in Boston.
The appeal is pretty straightforward. DeBrusk is the kind of winger Boston could use more of: he can score, he plays with an edge, and he would give the Bruins another option in their top six. That matters for a team trying to strengthen its forward group, and it helps that Boston already knows exactly what kind of player it would be getting.
There’s also the comfort factor. DeBrusk has already lived through the Bruins’ system, the expectations, and the day-to-day demands that come with playing there. A reunion wouldn’t come with much of a learning curve, and he could slide back into the lineup without needing a long adjustment period.
The real question is whether Vancouver actually gets to that point. The Canucks haven’t had the season they wanted, and if the struggles continue, a broader roster reset could follow. DeBrusk’s name being floated on trade boards is worth noting, especially if the Canucks begin hearing out offers on some of their veteran players.
He is a capable NHL forward, so there should be interest if Vancouver makes him available. Still, Boston would need to be careful about the price.
The Bruins can’t afford to overpay just because the player is familiar. His contract and the return Vancouver would want both matter here.
Even so, the fit is obvious enough that Boston should at least check in. If the Canucks are willing to move DeBrusk, the Bruins ought to make the call and see what it would take to get something done.

Bruins Fast Start Has Created A Bigger Question In Boston
The Bruins have spent the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season looking like a team that has rediscovered its footing, sitting atop the Atlantic Division behind a fast start that has put the rest of the East on notice. David Pastrk has again been central to the push, while rookie James Hagens has added a jolt of energy and optimism to a lineup that has looked sharper and more connected than it did a year ago.
What makes the start so intriguing is that it has come with the kind of balance Boston has been searching for, from the top of the roster down through the crease. The question now is whether this is the beginning of a sustained run or simply an early-season burst that will be harder to maintain once the schedule tightens and the league gets a longer look at what the Bruins are doing well. Bruins Hit A Serious Roadblock In Their Dylan Larkin Pursuit
The Bruins interest in Dylan Larkin has added a new layer to a potential trade chase that already looked complicated. Boston has been linked to the Detroit Red Wings center, and the idea makes sense on paper for a team always looking to add impact down the middle. But as Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger have noted, there are real hurdles here, starting with the fact that Larkin controls where he can go.
Detroits position keeps the situation in a holding pattern for now, with the club still exploring its options while needing Larkins approval to move him anywhere. For Boston, the question is whether that stance can shift, because until it does, the Bruins are left hoping a pursuit turns into something more than just interest. [Read more 🡒]
Bruins Could Be Pulled Into A Stunning Nikita Kucherov Chase
The idea of Nikita Kucherov changing teams is the kind of rumor that instantly catches the eye around the league, and it has created a fresh layer of intrigue for clubs watching Tampa Bay closely. Kucherovs situation turned public after he chose not to sign a new deal this offseason, with the star winger pointing to communication and respect issues, while Lightning general manager Julien BriseBois has insisted the team does not intend to move him.
For Boston, the appeal is obvious even if the path is far from clear. Any player of Kucherovs caliber would force teams to think hard about fit, cost and timing, and the Bruins are among the clubs that would naturally be mentioned if this ever moved beyond speculation. For now, though, the bigger story is simply whether Tampa Bay can keep the matter from turning into a full-blown leaguewide chase. [Read more 🡒]
