Spencer Danielson Just Gave Boise State Fans What They Needed

Spencer Danielson remains steadfastly committed to Boise State despite interest from major Power Four programs seeking his leadership.

With Power Four jobs opening up around the country, Spencer Danielson isn’t looking over his shoulder.

Boise State’s coach made that clear Monday, brushing off the latest round of vacancies and saying his focus stays squarely on the Broncos. Baylor fired Dave Aranda on Sunday midway through his seventh season, and ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg included Danielson among five names tied to that opening, along with G.J.

Kinne, Matt Rhule, Lincoln Riley and Jeff Traylor. Maryland and N.C.

State also parted ways with their head coaches over the last week.

Danielson, though, wasn’t interested in entertaining the chatter.

When asked about those openings during his press conference, he said, “I don’t even let myself go there.”

He doubled down from there.

“I absolutely feel like God has called me here,” Danielson said. “That’s not mythological.

These players, this community, what God’s doing here, I’m all chips on the table here. I had someone call me yesterday that I was talking to and they were like ‘Any interest?’

And I’m like ‘Zero interest.’ And that’s not coach speak … zero interest about anything outside of coaching this team now and in the future.”

Danielson said he doesn’t even bring those conversations to his agent. In his words, he is “100 percent committed” to Boise State, and he described a long-running understanding between them about what kinds of opportunities he would actually consider.

“We’ve been through this now, and I tell players that,” Danielson said. “There have been times in the past that (my agent) has told me ‘This school wants you and you should look into it.’

And my answer is ‘That’s not where I want to go, I feel called here.’ So we’ve been through it enough that he knows my heart.

And if there’s ever a situation in the future that is intriguing to me, I’ll talk to him. Other than that, I don’t talk to him.

“That’s just me. I go to work, I go home.

People are like ‘What hobbies you got?’ I don’t have any.

I’ve got three little kids, I’ve got a sweet wife, and I’ve got 113 young men that I know need all of me, and that’s just who I am. I can’t let my mind go anywhere else than 10 toes down where I am.”

The timing of all that noise around him makes sense. Over the last three seasons, no Group of Six head coach has won more than Danielson, who has a 30-9 record with three Mountain West titles.

Boise State is ranked 20th, sits at 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the Pac-12, and reached the College Football Playoff in 2024. The Broncos enter Saturday’s home game against Texas State at 4-3 and 2-1 as the favorite to represent the Group of Six in this year’s playoff.

Still, Danielson said none of the outside attention changes how he views his current team. In fact, he called the 2026 group his favorite to coach at Boise State.

“Not just because of the wins and the success. Seeing who they are and seeing what God is doing now and in the future and where I really believe we can build to, I am so committed to this team and what it is,” Danielson said.

Boise State Faces A Real Test Against A Dangerous Texas State Team

Boise State gets a Halloween night stage at Albertsons Stadium on Oct. 31, with Texas State coming in for an 8 p.m. Mountain kickoff in a game that looks more dangerous than the point spread suggests. DraftKings Sportsbook has the Broncos as 11.5-point favorites, but that number has not changed the way Spencer Danielson is talking about the matchup, especially with a Bobcats team that has enough firepower to make things uncomfortable if Boise State is not sharp early.

Danielson pointed directly to Texas States offense and its dual-threat quarterback Brad Jackson as the biggest challenge, and that is the kind of profile that can stress a defense on any given night. With more Pac-12 games and betting lines in the mix around the schedule, this one stands out for Boise State because it is the sort of late-season test that can reveal a lot about how complete the Broncos really are. Boise States Strong Finish Changes The Feel Of The Pac-12 Race

A road win in Pullman has kept Boise State right in the thick of the Pac-12 race, and the way the Broncos handled Washington State made the result feel bigger than just another conference victory. With the standings still crowded at the top alongside Oregon State, Boise State has now paired strong recent results with the kind of balanced team performance that travels well, leaning on the run game and a defense that made life difficult for the Cougars.

That matters even more with the schedule tightening and other league contenders dealing with their own swings in form, because every Saturday now seems to reshape the picture a little more. Boise States latest performance did more than protect its place near the top - it also added another layer of pressure to the teams chasing it, with the next stretch likely to say plenty about whether this early advantage holds. Boise States Playoff Edge Comes Down To One Massive Test

The playoff picture is still taking shape across college football, but Boise State has managed to move back into a more favorable position among the non-Power conference contenders as the seasons chaos keeps reshuffling the field. With parity running through the year and injuries already changing how teams are viewed, the Broncos have stayed in the mix while a projected 2026 bracket continues to sort out which conference champions and at-large teams deserve the final bids.

Boise States hold on that spot is hardly secure, though, and the next stretch could end up deciding whether the Broncos keep their edge or get caught in the crowd. A major test against Oregon State looms as the kind of game that can alter the entire race for the final playoff berth, especially with the debate around the 12th spot still wide open and several teams making their case.
