Boise State quarterback Maddux Madsen has landed on the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, putting him among 113 nominees for an award that honors the player who best blends community service with athletic and academic achievement.
The Wuerffel Foundation announced the list, and Madsen’s off-field work is a big reason he’s on it. He serves as a student-athlete ambassador for BroncoBOLD, Boise State’s mental health initiative, and has taken part in local elementary school Chalk the Walk events during National Suicide Prevention Week to help raise mental health awareness. He also supported the Best of the BOLD Awards, which spotlighted the accomplishments of high school ambassadors.
Madsen, who is from Lehi, Utah, also organized a toy drive with Foster & Heart, an organization that supports foster children in the Treasure Valley.
His résumé in the classroom is just as loaded. Madsen earned his bachelor’s degree from Boise State in May and was recognized with several academic honors, including membership in the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. He also earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors twice, is a four-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete, and has been named Academic All-MW three times.
On the field, the fifth-year quarterback heads into the 2026 season with 507 completions, 6,586 yards and 50 touchdowns. Each of those marks ranks eighth in Boise State history. In 2025, he helped lead the Broncos to their third straight conference title and was named MW Championship Offensive MVP after throwing for 299 yards and four touchdowns.
Madsen is also on the Maxwell Award Watch List and has been named to the All-Pac-12 Preseason second team by both Phil Steele and Athlon Sports.
Other Boise State players earning preseason recognition include RB Dylan Riley, who is on the Maxwell Award watch list; TE Matt Wagner, OL Roger Carreon and OL Daylon Metoyer, who are on the East-West Bowl 1000; and DB Jaden Mickey.

Jayden Virgin-Morgans rise has turned into one of the more notable preseason storylines for Boise State, with the Broncos EDGE earning a spot on the Lombardi Award Preseason Watchlist. It is a national nod as much as it is a local one, since the list includes just 54 players and Virgin-Morgan is the only Pac-12 representative, another sign that his profile has moved well beyond Boise.
The honor fits the body of work he has already built, with 120 tackles, 16 sacks and 31 tackles for loss giving Boise State a proven defensive presence to point to heading into 2026.
