Boise State is back on the trail for a highly rated guard, and this time the Broncos have lined up an official visit with Iowa United Prep point guard Jamaal McKnight Jr.
Sam Kayser of Hoops IQ reported Tuesday that McKnight Jr., a four-star class of 2027 prospect, will visit Boise State from Sept. 19-21.
That trip falls on the same weekend as Boise State’s home football game against South Dakota on Saturday, Sept. 19.
McKnight Jr. is listed by ESPN as the No. 90 overall prospect in the class of 2027 and the No. 22 point guard. The 6-foot, 175-pound guard has reported offers from Butler, California, SMU, UNLV and Virginia Tech, among others. Kayser also reported that he is set to visit UNLV in September.
The Maryland native began his prep career at DeMatha Catholic High School, where he spent his first two seasons in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference. He moved on to Long Island Lutheran High School in New York last year and will wrap up his high school career at Iowa United Prep in Des Moines.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jamaal McKnight Jr to the Iowa United family. Looking forward to an incredible year ahead,” Iowa United Prep said in an Instagram post in July.
Boise State’s interest comes after the Broncos also pursued four-star shooting guard Brandon Mason Jr., who committed to Xavier last weekend. Mason Jr., a 6-foot-6, 175-pound guard, was rated the No. 77 overall class of 2027 prospect by 247Sports, and his final five were Boise State, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Ohio and Xavier.
The Broncos still do not have a commitment in the class of 2027, and the roster picture points to plenty of openings ahead. Boise State will have at least five open roster spots following the 2026-27 season.
That turnover is already taking shape. Guards Rayzhon Bergersen, Brennan Ramirez, Lamar Washington and Damari Wheeler-Thomas, along with forward Dovydas Butka, will all exhaust their eligibility this winter. Ty Rodgers, a fifth-year senior transfer guard from Illinois, could miss the entire season because of injury and return in 2027-28.
Rodgers was Boise State’s top transfer portal addition last cycle and ranked as 247Sports’ No. 236 overall player in the portal.
The Broncos are also staring down a major rebuild after last season’s 20-12 finish and another missed NCAA Tournament. All five starters from that team need replacing, and four of them already moved on to Power Four programs: forward Javan Buchanan to West Virginia, center Drew Fielder to Alabama, guard R.J. Keene II to North Carolina State and wing Andrew Meadow to Oregon.

The school completed a $70 million renovation that added about 1,600 premium seats, and the stadium is now estimated to hold around 35,000, a slight dip from its previous official capacity.
Even with the adjustment, demand has stayed strong. Boise State has already sold more than 20,000 season tickets for the upcoming season and is aiming to reach 23,000 with six regular-season home games on the schedule, a sign that the Broncos home-field pull is not fading as conference realignment changes the backdrop around them.
