Boise State is already making noise in its new conference home.
Athlon Sports’ preseason all-Pac-12 teams for 2026 were released recently, and the Broncos landed a league-high 20 selections. Washington State followed with 18, while Fresno State came next with 16.
That kind of showing fits the buzz around Boise State after the program moved from the Mountain West to the Pac-12 last week along with Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State. The Broncos are coming off a season in which they had eight players earn all-Mountain West recognition and captured their third straight conference title, and they’re expected to be in the title mix again.
On offense, Boise State placed three players on the first team: running backs Dylan Riley and Sire Gaines, plus offensive lineman Roger Carreon.
Riley was a workhorse as a sophomore last season, piling up 195 carries for 1,125 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also added 15 catches for 149 yards and two more scores while earning second-team all-MWC honors.
Gaines gave the Broncos another major threat in the backfield, sharing carries with Riley in 2025 and finishing with 811 rushing yards and nine total touchdowns.
Carreon was a steady presence up front, starting 13 games at right guard and earning all-MWC honorable mention recognition.
Boise State’s defensive haul was just as strong. The Broncos put four players on the first team there: defensive linemen Jayden Virgin-Morgan and Max Stege, linebacker Boen Phelps and cornerback Jaden Mickey. Kicker Colton Boomer and punter Oscar Doyle also made the first team as specialists.
Virgin-Morgan is a two-time all-MWC honoree and brings 120 career tackles, including 31 for loss, along with 16 sacks.
Stege started all 14 games last season and finished with 27 total tackles, seven of them for loss.
Phelps played in all 14 games a year ago on defense and special teams and recorded 66 total tackles.
Mickey is projected to move to outside corner after starting 11 games at nickelback as a junior.

The biggest offseason question on Boise States defense sits right in the middle of the line, where Braxton Felys departure leaves a real void heading into 2026. The Broncos have bodies to work with, and they have some size and experience in the room, but replacing a player who helped anchor the interior is never just a one-for-one task.
David Latu, Michael Madrie and Lopes Sanusi are all in position to take on larger roles, and the group will need someone to turn potential into steady production.
