Boise State Just Got A Ranking Boost At The Right Time

The Broncos capitalize on chaos in the top 25, climbing in the rankings despite a bye week.

Boise State spent its bye week climbing the Coaches Poll.

The Broncos moved up two spots to No. 22 in the Week 6 rankings released Sunday, rising from No. 24 after improving to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Pac-12 play. They’ll return to action next weekend at Washington State, which sits at 1-6 and 0-3.

The top of the poll got shaken up in a big way. Eight teams in the Coaches Poll top 25 lost over the weekend, including No.

1 Georgia and No. 2 Notre Dame.

Georgia was upset at home by Auburn, 27-24, while Notre Dame dropped a 28-24 decision at then-No. 8 BYU.

That chaos pushed Miami into the top spot. Ohio State is now No. 2, followed by No.

3 BYU, No. 4 Georgia and No.

5 Texas Tech.

Boise State’s path in the College Football Playoff race also took a small hit Friday night when Memphis lost on the road at Tulane, 31-17. The Tigers had won three straight since their 38-20 loss at Boise State in Week 3 and had picked up six votes in last week’s poll.

The Broncos are still the highest-ranked Group of Six team in the Coaches Poll. The only other Group of Six programs mentioned were in the votes category, with James Madison leading that group at 80 votes. Oregon State (17), New Mexico (16), UTSA (13), North Dakota State (8), Air Force (3) and North Texas (1) also received votes.

Oregon, which beat Boise State in Week 1, stayed at No. 25 after a 17-14 comeback win over Nebraska.

The bottom of the poll featured No. 23 Northwestern, No.

24 Florida and No. 25 Oregon.

Dropping out were No. 19 Mississippi State and No.

20 Oklahoma State.

Here is the full Week 7 Coaches Poll (first-place votes in parentheses):

Boise State Still Has Two Big Roster Questions Entering Washington Exhibition

Boise State gets its second exhibition test of the 2026-27 season Saturday against Washington at Idaho Central Arena, a useful checkpoint after the Broncos opened with a win over Idaho. The game will not be televised or streamed live, so the only way to follow it in real time will be on KBOI 670 AM, but the bigger draw for the Broncos may be how they continue sorting out their roster before the games start counting.

The biggest questions remain tied to two missing pieces. Ty Rodgers is still out with a knee injury suffered in offseason workouts, while Lamar Washington is in the middle of trying to gain another year of eligibility. Washington can practice with Boise State, which gives the staff another body and another look in workouts, but he still cannot suit up for games, leaving the Broncos with some unfinished business as they head into their final exhibition tune-up. Which Former Broncos Are Delivering In The NFL Right Now

The Boise State pipeline to the NFL is still showing up across the league this season, with former Broncos popping up in roles that range from every-down contributors to depth pieces waiting for their next chance. DeMarcus Lawrence, George Holani, JL Skinner, Ezra Cleveland and John Ojukwu are among the alumni drawing attention for their playing time and performance grades, while Kellen Moore has also kept a Boise State presence on the coaching side as the Broncos pro footprint continues to stretch across multiple teams.

Kage Casey is part of that wider snapshot, even if his season has not yet included an active gameday role. The broader takeaway for Boise State is familiar and encouraging: the program keeps producing NFL talent, and the current group is another reminder that the Broncos reach in the league is not just a matter of history, but of ongoing representation week after week.
