Why Baylors Season May Hinge On Evan Chatman

Evan Chatman's experience and versatility position him as a cornerstone for Baylor's rebuilt roster amid a critical rebuilding phase for the team's frontcourt strength.

Baylor’s 2026-27 roster is full of fresh faces, but the transfer who may matter most isn’t the one drawing the loudest buzz.

That distinction belongs to Evan Chatman, a 6-8 forward from Harker Heights, Texas, who arrives in Waco after a winding path that began in JUCO and took him through McLennan Community College before last season’s stop at UAB. At UAB, Chatman became a real factor in the frontcourt, averaging 8.8 points and 8.8 rebounds during a 21-win season. For a Baylor team trying to rebuild after last year’s disappointment, that kind of steady production is exactly why he stands out.

The Bears had a rough run in 2024-25. Scott Drew’s group had to replace the entire roster, and the new collection never quite fit together. Baylor finished tied for 13th in the Big 12 and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018.

This offseason brought more turnover, but also more hope. Cameron Carr was drafted last week, and Baylor also moved on from senior pieces like Obi Agbim and Michael Rataj. The program did keep Isaac Williams, who averaged 10.4 points per game as a sophomore, and it will finally have 7-footer Juslin Bodo Bodo available after he missed last season with injury.

The incoming talent is part of what makes the Bears interesting. Five-star point guard Dylan Mingo is expected to take on a huge backcourt role, while his brother Kayden joins after a strong freshman season at Penn State. Baylor also added Elijah Williams, a 4-star small forward from Arizona, plus rising juniors Isaac Celiscar and Brett Decker, who were double-digit scorers last season at Yale and Liberty.

Still, the biggest questions sit up front, and that’s where Chatman’s value spikes. Bodo Bodo has the tools to become an elite rim protector, but Baylor hasn’t seen him in over a year. Maikcol Perez and Mayo Soyoye are both set to make their collegiate debuts, and there’s no real way to know what they’ll give the Bears right away.

Chatman is the only experienced option ready to slide into a major role at the 4. That makes him more than just another transfer. Whether he ends up as a starter or a key depth piece, Baylor needs his rebounding and reliability in a Big 12 frontcourt that still has plenty to prove.

Baylor May Have Found The Veteran Voice This Rebuild Needed

Baylors roster makeover has been one of the bigger offseason storylines in Waco, with seven new players arriving as the Bears try to turn a fresh group into a functioning team before the games start to count. In that kind of rebuild, talent is only part of the equation. The other part is finding someone who can steady the room, and guard Isaac Williams is quickly shaping up as the voice this group needs.

Williams, who recently agreed to a two-year deal, is expected to be a central figure for Baylors next stretch and has already put a premium on defense and team unity. The Bears will get a chance to keep building that chemistry through international scrimmages in Canada and the Players Era tournament, where the early goal is less about polish than about figuring out who they are together before the regular season arrives. Baylor Softball Is Bringing Back A Beloved Bear For Something Bigger

Baylor softball is set to welcome back a familiar face this summer, with former standout Presleigh Pilon moving from a decorated college career into the next phase of her connection to the program. Head coach Glenn Moore announced the move, and it comes after Pilon finishes her professional season with the KC Diamonds, keeping her on the field a little longer before she returns to Waco.

Pilons Baylor rsum already gives the Bears plenty of reason to be excited. She left behind a career filled with major honors, including the 2025 Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award, along with several program records that helped define her time in green and gold. Now the question for Baylor is how her experience, both as a standout college player and a pro, will translate when she comes back to help shape the next wave of Bears. [Read more 🡒]

Baylor Softball Just Landed A Huge Arm For Glenn Moore

Baylor softball kept building its future with another addition to Glenn Moores roster, as the Bears continued to add experienced arms and proven college talent ahead of the 2027 season. The latest move fits the kind of aggressive roster work that has become a theme for Baylor, which has been active in both the transfer market and on the recruiting trail as it looks to deepen a staff that can hold up in Big 12 play.

The newest name brings a decorated rsum from Southeastern Louisiana, where a sophomore pitcher emerged as one of the Southland Conferences top performers in 2026. She is set to join a Baylor group that has already added several other newcomers, including teammate Haley Crawford, giving Moore another layer of depth to sort through before the next wave of competition arrives.
