Taliah Scott Just Raised The Stakes For Baylors Season

Baylor senior standout Taliah Scott earns a coveted spot on the prestigious Naismith Trophy Watch List following a record-breaking season.

Baylor’s Taliah Scott has added another preseason honor to her name, landing on the 2026-27 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Watch List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday morning.

The senior guard is back in green and gold after a strong first season at Baylor, one that put her squarely among the Big 12’s most productive scorers. Scott averaged 19.7 points per game and stacked up a long list of single-season program rankings. She tied for third in 3-pointers made, led the Bears in 3-pointers attempted, finished fifth in free throws made, tied for eighth in free throws attempted and was first in free throw percentage.

Scott’s scoring punch was a major part of Baylor’s offense last season. The Jacksonville, Fla., native accounted for 27% of the Bears’ points and ranked second in the Big 12 in scoring.

She led Baylor in scoring in 27 of 33 games in 2025-26 and reached double figures 30 times. Her first double-double came against Southeastern Louisiana, when she put up 23 points and 10 assists.

She also crossed a major career milestone early in 2026, reaching 1,000 points in her 48th game while averaging 21.1 points at the time. That made her the 22nd Division I player since 2000 to get there in 48 games or fewer, and she tied for the 19th-fewest games needed.

Scott’s sophomore-year run brought plenty of postseason recognition, too. She was an honorable mention All-America pick by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and earned All-Big 12 first-team honors.

Her preseason resume keeps growing ahead of 2026-27. Scott was a unanimous selection to the preseason All-Big 12 team and also landed on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard of the Year watch list.

She is one of eight Big 12 players on the Naismith watch list, alongside West Virginia’s Gia Cooke, Oklahoma State’s Audi Crooks and Liv McGill, BYU’s Delaney Gibbs, Kansas’ S’Mya Nichols, TCU’s Clara Silva and Colorado’s Zyanna Walker.

Baylors Next Coach Faces One Urgent Roster Fight

Joe Klandermans first big challenge at Baylor is bigger than drawing up a plan for next fall. He has to keep the Bears moving toward bowl eligibility while also navigating the kind of offseason roster turbulence that comes with a coaching change and the transfer portal era. Around the program, the conversation is already less about scheme and more about who stays put long enough to become part of the next foundation.

The retention list is clear enough, with six players standing out as priorities because of what they could mean to Baylors future. Quarterbacks Lagway and Bennett sit at the top of that group, while running back Ryelan Morris and cornerback Devon Jordan also loom as especially important pieces. For Klanderman, the early test is not just building a staff or setting a tone. It is holding together enough of the roster to give the Bears a real chance to stabilize quickly. [Read more 🡒]

Baylor Suddenly Feels Like A Real Lincoln Riley Landing Spot

Lincoln Rileys future at USC is suddenly drawing fresh attention, and Baylor is one of the jobs that keeps coming up in the discussion. The fit makes some sense on paper: Rileys offense would land in a place that already values that side of the ball, and the Bears would be able to sell him on a Big 12 schedule instead of the more demanding weekly travel that comes with USCs move into the Big Ten.

There is also a practical layer to all of this, because Rileys contract situation adds another wrinkle to any serious coaching conversation. USCs recent struggles, the frustration around the program and the administrative changes around the Trojans have only made the speculation louder, and Baylor suddenly looks like the kind of landing spot that could appeal if this ever turns from rumor into something more concrete. Baylor Gets Another Crack At TCU With The Rivalry Suddenly Tilting

Baylor volleyball gets another swing at TCU with the rivalry leaning the Bears way after a recent 3-0 road win over the Horned Frogs. Now the setting flips back to Waco, where Baylor has long been tough to handle, and the Bears have backed that up by winning 15 of the last 19 meetings in the series.

There is also a milestone feel around this stretch of the schedule, with Ksenia Rakhmanchik and Isabela Haggard both closing in on career marks worth watching. And after Ryan McGuyre recently picked up his 250th win at Baylor, the Bears have a coach who has seen this matchup from every angle, which makes the next meeting with TCU feel like more than just another date on the calendar.
