Baylor has landed its first commitment in the 2027 class, and it comes from one of the nation’s top young guards.
Tyrone Jamison Jr., the No. 38 overall recruit in the national 2027 class, announced for the Bears on the CBS Sports College Basketball Youtube channel. The 6-foot-1 guard from Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist picked Baylor over Iowa, LSU, Miami, Oklahoma and USC.
Jamison said the connection he built with Scott Drew and the Baylor staff played a major role in his decision.
"I like relationship I built with Scott Drew and how all the coaches on their staff came after me hard," Jamison said. "They made a group chat that included every coach along with me and my parents.
I took my visit after Peach Jam and everybody is connected from the players to the managers. It just felt like family.
That family feel mattered, but so did the program’s reputation for turning guards into pros. Baylor’s recent run of Jared Butler, Davion Mitchell and Keyonte George reaching the NBA stood out to Jamison.
"Coach Drew produces guards in the NBA," Jamison said. "He has a pedigree with guards. I also love the academics and the winning tradition."
With Jamison in the fold, Drew now has his first pledge in the 2027 cycle. Looking ahead to Waco, Jamison said his focus is simple: keep improving and bring a winning mindset.
"The program is getting a winner," Jamison said. "I am an all-around winner who will do whatever it takes to win and wants to get better every day."
