Baylor is waiting on a big recruiting moment Saturday afternoon, when four-star guard Tyrone “TJ” Jamison is set to announce his commitment. The Bears are one of the six schools still in the mix, and the latest signs point their way.
Jamison, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard from Shreveport, Louisiana, and Calvary Baptist Academy, is regarded as one of the top backcourt prospects in the 2027 class. Rivals lists him as the No. 34 player overall and the No. 11 point guard in the cycle.
He’s the kind of guard who does a little bit of everything. In a recent 89-80 overtime win, Jamison posted 17 points on 5-of-16 shooting, grabbed nine rebounds, handed out five assists and committed two turnovers while going 6-for-6 at the line. He also knocked down clutch free throws to send the game to overtime.
“I’m an all-around player,” Jamison told On3. “I like to get my teammates involved first, and then I can score the ball and get to the rack.
I shoot the ball pretty well and I like the mid-range game. I’ve been getting a lot stronger this summer.
I’m hitting the weight regularly and I’m getting stronger and I can see it with my body control against defenders. I try and model my game after Rob Dillingham, I watch some Devin Booker too.
I like Dillingham’s shiftiness and his quick-twitch and is so smooth with it.”
If Jamison chooses Baylor, he would become the first commitment in Scott Drew’s 2027 class. That would follow a strong 2026 haul for the Bears, highlighted by late five-star guard Dylan Mingo and wing Elijah Williams, who is expected to bring immediate value next season even if he doesn’t crack the starting five right away.
Baylor’s roster outlook also adds another layer here. With the five-for-five eligibility rule changing the landscape, the Bears could keep players around longer, but the expectation is that Mingo will be a one-and-done in Waco. That means Drew could be looking for a quick answer in the backcourt.
Jamison fits that need. He can run an offense, involve teammates and still create his own shot when needed.
Baylor also hopes to get both Kayden Mingo and Isaac Williams back for another season, and both can handle the ball. Even so, the Bears know you can never have too many playmakers in their system.
Drew has already built a strong relationship with Jamison, and the momentum appears to be moving Baylor’s way heading into the announcement.
