Baylors Cameron Carr Earns Spot on Prestigious National Watch List

Baylors Cameron Carr continues to make national waves as he earns a spot among the elite contenders for one of college basketballs top honors.

Cameron Carr Named to Jerry West Award Midseason Watch List After Breakout Season for Baylor

WACO, Texas - It’s been a standout debut season for Baylor’s Cameron Carr, and now the rest of the country is taking notice. The redshirt sophomore has officially been named to the midseason watch list for the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award - a nod to his all-around excellence and consistency through the first half of the 2025-26 campaign.

Carr is one of just 10 players nationally to earn a spot on the midseason list, and one of five representing the Big 12 - a conference that’s once again proving to be a gauntlet of elite guard play. He joins fellow Big 12 names like Brayden Burries (Arizona), Richie Saunders (BYU), Emanuel Sharp (Houston), and Darryn Peterson (Kansas) on the list, all of whom have made their own strong cases for national recognition.

The Jerry West Award, presented by the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, honors the top shooting guard in the country each season. The list will be trimmed to five finalists in March, with the winner announced after the season wraps. Fans will get a say in that process, too - voting opens February 6 at HoopHallAwards.com, and the fan vote counts as one vote in the committee’s final decision.

Carr’s inclusion isn’t just about numbers - though the stats certainly speak volumes. The 6-foot-5 guard from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, has started all 21 games for Baylor this season, averaging 19.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 32.4 minutes per game. He’s been efficient and versatile, shooting 52.1% from the field and 40.0% from deep - a rare combination of volume and precision that’s made him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

He’s scored in double figures in 20 of 21 games, and he’s cracked the 20-point mark nine times - including a career-high 28 points in the season opener, where he shot 9-of-14 from the floor. He’s also brought it on the defensive end, tallying 29 blocks and 19 steals, and he’s notched three double-doubles, highlighted by a 16-point, 12-rebound performance in a road win at West Virginia.

What’s made Carr’s season so impressive is how seamlessly he’s stepped into a leading role. This is his first season suiting up for the Bears, and he’s already become one of the most reliable two-way players in the Big 12. His size, poise, and ability to impact the game in multiple ways have been crucial for a Baylor team navigating a tough conference schedule.

Speaking of which, Baylor (12-9, 2-7 Big 12) is still searching for consistency in league play, but Carr’s emergence has been a bright spot. The Bears will look to build on their recent win when they host Colorado on Wednesday.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT, with the game airing live on Peacock and the Baylor Sports Media Network.

As the season heads into the home stretch, Carr’s play will continue to be pivotal - not just for Baylor’s postseason hopes, but for his own shot at taking home one of college basketball’s most prestigious individual honors. If he keeps this up, he won’t just be on the watch list - he’ll be in serious contention to win it.
