Baylors Cameron Carr Earns First Big 12 Honor After Huge Scoring Week

Cameron Carr's breakout performance in Las Vegas has earned him Big 12 recognition and positioned him among the nations elite early this season.

Cameron Carr is wasting no time making his mark in Waco. The Baylor guard just picked up his first Big 12 honor, earning a spot on the conference’s weekly Starting Five-and based on what he did in Las Vegas, it’s easy to see why.

Carr poured in 65 points across three games in the Players Era Tournament, helping the Bears go 2-1 with wins over Creighton and San Diego State. He was the engine for Baylor’s offense, leading the team in scoring in the first two matchups and averaging 21.7 points per game for the week. In short: Carr didn’t just show up in Vegas-he showed out.

The Eden Prairie, Minnesota native has been on a heater to start the season. He’s scored at least 16 points in every game so far-six straight-and in doing so, became the first Bear since Tevis Stukes back in the 1999-2000 season to open a year with that kind of consistent scoring punch. That’s not just a hot start; that’s making history.

Carr’s season numbers are turning heads across the country. He currently ranks eighth nationally and second in the Big 12 in points per game with a blistering 22.7 average.

And he’s not just scoring-he’s doing it with remarkable efficiency. Carr is shooting a scorching 55.2% from three-point range, the best mark in the Big 12 and sixth-best in the nation.

That kind of perimeter shooting can stretch defenses thin and open up everything else for Baylor’s offense.

His trip to Vegas wasn’t just about points-it was about growth. Carr set career highs in several categories during the tournament: 16 field goal attempts against Creighton, five made threes and eight attempts from beyond the arc against St.

John's, three assists versus San Diego State, and 36 minutes played in that same showdown with St. John's.

In Baylor’s first ranked matchup of the season against 14/15 St. John's, Carr led the way with 27 points, including 5-of-8 shooting from deep-just one bucket short of matching his career high.

The Big 12’s Starting Five this week includes some serious talent, with Joshua Jefferson (Iowa State), Moe Odum (Arizona State), Flory Bidunga (Kansas), and Brock Harding (TCU) joining Carr. Jefferson was named Player of the Week, while Odum took home Newcomer of the Week honors.

Now, Baylor heads back to the familiar confines of Foster Pavilion, where they’ll play five of their next six games in December. Up next: a Monday night Holiday Hoops matchup against Sacramento State, tipping off at 7 p.m.
