When Baylor needed a spark, Cameron Carr lit the fuse.

The redshirt sophomore guard has been named to the Big 12 Starting Five after a standout week that saw him power the Bears to a pair of key wins-first at home against Colorado, then on the road in a hostile environment at No. 7 Iowa State. Carr didn’t just show up; he took over.

Across those two games, Carr dropped a combined 43 points, averaging 21.5 per contest-good for fifth in the Big 12 during that span. But it wasn’t just the scoring.

It was how he scored and when he delivered. Against Iowa State, Carr poured in 24 points, just four shy of his career high.

That performance included a barrage from deep, tying his personal best with five made threes on 10 attempts. That 24-point outing also marked the highest single-game scoring effort in conference play this season.

Carr’s impact wasn’t limited to putting the ball in the basket. He logged serious minutes-playing all but four across the two games-and served as a playmaker, dishing out nine assists on the week (4.5 per game). His ability to balance scoring with facilitating is a big reason Baylor continues to trend in the right direction.

On the season, Carr is putting together a quietly dominant campaign. He’s averaging 19.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting an efficient 52.1% from the field and 41.3% from beyond the arc. That kind of production, especially in a loaded Big 12, is hard to ignore.

Carr, a native of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, is proving he’s more than just a role player-he’s becoming a go-to guy for a Baylor team with big aspirations. With a top-25 matchup looming against No. 22 BYU on Tuesday night at Foster Pavilion, Carr will look to keep the hot hand going and help the Bears stack another statement win.
