Cameron Carr Earns Big 12 Recognition After Breakout Week in Vegas
Baylor guard Cameron Carr is making sure his name is one to remember in the Big 12 this season. After a standout showing at the Players Era Tournament in Las Vegas, Carr has earned his first Big 12 weekly honor, landing a spot on the conference’s Starting Five - and it’s hard to argue he didn’t deserve it.
Carr was electric in Vegas, pouring in a combined 65 points over three games as Baylor finished 2-1 with wins over Creighton and San Diego State. He was the offensive engine for the Bears, leading the team in scoring in the first two matchups and averaging 21.7 points per game across the week.
Through six games this season, Carr is showing no signs of slowing down. He’s averaging 22.7 points per game - good for second in the Big 12 and eighth in the nation - and doing it with remarkable efficiency.
His three-point shooting has been especially lethal: Carr is hitting at a .552 clip from deep, the best in the Big 12 and sixth-best nationally. That’s not just hot shooting - that’s elite territory.
Consistency has been Carr’s calling card early on. He’s scored at least 16 points in every game so far this season, making him the first Baylor player since Tevis Stukes in the 1999-2000 season to open the year with six straight games of 16+ points. That kind of start doesn’t just happen by accident - it’s a product of confidence, preparation, and a green light he’s clearly not afraid to use.
Carr’s time in Vegas wasn’t just about scoring, either. He set career highs in several categories, including field goal attempts (16 vs.
Creighton), three-pointers made (5 vs. St.
John’s), three-point attempts (8 vs. St.
John’s), assists (3 vs. San Diego State), and minutes played (36 vs.
St. John’s).
And in Baylor’s first ranked matchup of the season against No. 14/15 St.
John’s, Carr delivered - going 5-of-8 from beyond the arc and finishing with 27 points, just one shy of his career high.
The Big 12’s weekly honors also included Joshua Jefferson (Iowa State) as Player of the Week and Moe Odum (Arizona State) as Newcomer of the Week. Carr joined those two, along with Flory Bidunga (Kansas) and Brock Harding (TCU), on the Starting Five.
Now back in Waco, Baylor is set to play five of its next six games at Foster Pavilion throughout December, starting with a Holiday Hoops matchup against Sacramento State on Monday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
If Carr keeps playing at this level, don’t be surprised if more honors - and bigger headlines - keep coming his way.
