Baylor’s 2027 class had several prospects making noise over the weekend, with a few already stacking strong early-season numbers.
Trenton McCorvey, the linebacker from Alabaster, Alabama, turned in another busy night for Thompson. For the second straight week, he led the team in tackles with nine, adding eight solo stops, two tackles for loss and five QB hurries in a 37-13 win over Clay-Charkville.
Through two weeks, he’s up to 19 tackles, four for loss, one sack and seven QB hurries. One evaluator had plenty to say after the performance: “Baylor LB commit Trenton McCovery was FLYING around the field. 🐻🔥 (@tmac1_23)
The 6’1”, 210-pound versatile LB was making plays all night - showcasing his athleticism, instincts, football IQ and ability to impact the game from multiple spots.

McCorvey’s teammate, defensive back Micah Fleming, also got involved in the same win. He finished with five tackles, four of them solo, and a tackle for loss.
For the season, Fleming has 11 tackles, one tackle for loss, one interception and one pass breakup. He also posted a message after the game: “My coaches always tell me boring tape is the best tape if they gonna avoid you 90% of the time make them pay on the other 10% so even if it's frustrating I just make the most of my action.

Elsewhere in Texas, athlete Karece Hoyt helped Frisco Lone Star open with a 41-26 win over Royce City. He caught two passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, and he also added 46 rushing yards with three scores. Lone Star now turns to Simon Gratz in a Thursday matchup.
Quarterback Luke Babin wasted little time making his mark in Barbers Hill’s season opener. In a 38-10 win over Nimitz, he completed 9 of 14 passes for 227 yards and four touchdowns.
One of those scores came on his third passing touchdown of the quarter. Barbers Hill next faces Crosby on Friday.
A handful of other Baylor commits also saw their teams come away with wins. Davontrae Kirkland and Waco University beat Killeen Chaparral 49-20.
Devin Watkins put together a disruptive outing for Poteet in a 62-35 win over Everman, recording four tackles, five QB hurries and a sack. Bryson Brown helped Stillwater beat Fayetteville 23-3 with six tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and a recovered fumble.
Cadriann Olds was equally active for Booker T. Washington, finishing with six tackles, four for loss, two sacks and an interception in a 20-7 win over Collinsville.
On the offensive line, Chase Allen helped Bridgeland generate a run-heavy night in a 31-30 win over The Woodlands, with the offense scoring four rushing touchdowns. Baylor also has several players with upcoming games still on the schedule, including Josiah Morgan at Ruston, Noah Johnson at Smithson Valley, Hudson Whitenight at Dripping Springs, and Allen again with Bridgeland’s trip to Katy Tompkins.
