Baylor Volleyball Just Made The Statement Fans Have Been Waiting For

Baylor volleyball's decisive sweep over No. 10 TCU marks a significant milestone in their season, fueled by standout performances and strategic dominance.

Baylor’s road trip to Fort Worth ended with a statement and a sweep.

The Bears knocked off No. 10 TCU 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Schollmaier Arena, taking the match 25-22, 25-22, 27-25 to earn their first win over a ranked opponent this season. It also marked Baylor’s first road win over a top-10 team since beating Florida in 2021.

With the victory, Baylor moved to 12-5 overall and 4-3 in Big 12 play, while stretching its winning streak to three matches and its run of consecutive set wins to nine. The Bears outplayed TCU across the board, finishing with more kills, 44-40, more aces, 7-5, and more digs, 40-35, while also hitting .262 as a team compared to .231 for the Horned Frogs.

Ksenia Rakhmanchik was the difference-maker. She led all players with 23 kills on .463 hitting and finished with 24 points, both match-high marks.

Her biggest burst came in the third set, where she put away 12 kills and delivered Baylor’s final seven. She also erased three TCU set points and closed out the match herself.

Isabela Haggard added her fourth double-double of the season with 32 assists and 10 digs. Bailey Warren contributed eight kills, Nadiya Johnson added seven, and Jules Hernandez paced the back row with 11 digs while serving two aces. Taylor Crain and Morgan Madison also finished with two aces apiece.

The opener featured an early push from TCU, which jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Baylor answered and spent the rest of the set grinding its way back, tying things eight times.

Victoria Davis gave the Bears a 14-13 lead with a solo block, and kills from Haggard and Warren broke a 16-16 deadlock. Crain then took over from the service line, landing two aces during a 4-0 burst that included a Warren kill and made it 22-17.

TCU trimmed the margin to 22-20, but Rakhmanchik and Johnson finished the set with kills, and Rakhmanchik sealed it 25-22.

Baylor kept rolling into the second set, scoring the first two points on Johnson kills and leading for most of the frame. Madison’s ace pushed the Bears ahead 11-6, but TCU eventually found a 4-0 run and claimed its first lead at 18-17.

Rakhmanchik responded with three of Baylor’s next four kills to swing the set back the Bears’ way at 20-19. Warren and Rakhmanchik added late kills, and Mya Hemmer finished it with a solo block for a 25-22 Baylor win.

The third set turned into a tug-of-war. Baylor opened with a 4-0 run capped by a Madison ace to go up 9-5, and Hernandez later added an ace to stretch the margin to 17-12.

TCU clawed back with four straight points to close to 17-16, then moved in front 23-21 and reached set point at 24-22. Rakhmanchik answered with back-to-back kills to tie it, and after TCU grabbed another set point at 25-24, she tied it again before ending the match with two more kills for a 27-25 finish.

The win gave Baylor several notable milestones. The Bears have now won four straight against TCU and lead the all-time series 26-11, including 11-7 in Fort Worth.

Their previous ranked win came against No. 20 TCU last November.

Baylor has also won nine straight sets by sweeping Texas Tech, Arizona and TCU. The seven aces matched the team’s season high for the fourth time.

A few other numbers stood out: Baylor is 12-1 when it wins the opening set, and 8-1 when it outhits its opponent. Rakhmanchik’s 23 kills were her second-most of the season, trailing only her 26 at BYU, and her .463 hitting percentage was also her second-best mark this year behind her .478 showing at BYU.

She has now recorded double-digit kills in 26 straight matches and has led Baylor in kills in 16 of 17 matches. Haggard’s double-double was her fourth of the season, and Hernandez led the team in digs for the second time this year.

Baylor returns home next, hosting Houston on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. CT at the Ferrell Center. The match will stream on ESPN+, and stats will be available all season at BaylorBears.com/Stats.

Dave Aranda's Game Decisions Put Baylor Fans On Edge Against TCU

A crowded home night in Waco had all the ingredients for a statement game, but Baylors offense never delivered one. The Bears were held without a touchdown for the first time this season in a 17-6 loss to TCU, and the frustration had less to do with effort than with the way the game unfolded. Even as the defense did enough to keep Baylor within reach, the offense looked stuck searching for answers it never really found.

The biggest source of second-guessing came from how Dave Aranda and the staff handled the quarterback situation and the play sheet around DJ Lagway. With Lagways mobility limited, the Bears still leaned on a plan that left fans wondering whether the offense was being put in the best position to respond. In a game where Baylor had a loud home crowd and a defense ready to compete, the lack of offensive flexibility made the loss feel even more jarring. [Read more 🡒]

Baylor Faces A Bowl Pressure Test In A True Toss Up

October has brought Baylor right into the kind of game that can shape a season, with Kansas coming in on Oct. 24 still searching for its first Big 12 win and oddsmakers treating this one as just about even. FanDuel Sportsbook lists the Jayhawks as a slight underdog at +1.5, and the 53.5-point total suggests a matchup that could tilt either way if one offense finds rhythm early.

For Baylor, the concern is less about who is favored and more about whether the Bears can steady a stretch marked by inconsistent quarterback play and uneven execution. With both teams carrying the feel of a true toss-up, this has the look of a game where patience, field position and a few clean drives could matter as much as talent, which is exactly the kind of pressure test that can linger into the rest of the schedule. Baylor Faces A Brutal Late-Season Test Against Surging Texas Tech

Texas Tech is rolling into the back half of the season with real momentum, and Baylor is the next team to draw the short straw. The Red Raiders handled Arizona State in Week 5, with quarterback DJ Lagway throwing for 306 yards and piling up five total touchdowns, a reminder that this is a team capable of stressing opponents in multiple ways. At 6-0, Texas Tech has paired efficient offense with strong play on the other side of the ball, and that combination has made it one of the most complete teams on Baylors schedule.

For the Bears, the timing is hardly ideal after a recent loss to TCU. Their next chance comes Nov. 21, when Baylor meets Texas Tech in a game that already looks like a demanding late-season test, even before the broadcast details are sorted out. The matchup gives Baylor a chance to measure itself against an unbeaten rival, but it also sets up a tough examination of where the Bears stand as the year moves deeper into November. [Read more 🡒]
